Junior: Even though the past year has been tough because of COVID restrictions, I have had overall a pretty good time at West Point. The people here are mainly what makes it worth it--I've made friends that I know will last a lifetime. There are also endless opportunities (both during the semester and summer), especially if you want to get involved with research as an undergraduate. I have been able to publish my research in well known journals and conduct research alongside experts professors in the field I hope to pursue graduate school. The academics are not too hard, but it is very hit or miss in the core classes, because the instructors are randomly assigned and you don't get to choose. You might end up with someone not that great. However, in the upper division classes in the major, instructors are amazing and passionate about the subject. Senior: John Jay is a great choice for many students. I can personally speak to my experience as a STEM student in the Forensic Science major. The class sizes are small, so students have a more meaningful relationship with their mentors. There are lots of clubs and campus activities for students to partake in, and it's not unusual to be on my way to class to randomly see goodie bags or free food for an event in hound square! John Jay does not have a traditional campus feel (most of the population is made up of commuters) but makes up for it with its facilities. The JayWalk is a gorgeous courtyard where students often relax between classes and enjoy the weather. Furthermore, there are so many hidden gems for food and recreational activities in the blocks surrounding campus, which feel very safe. In fact, a few food places (shout out to Justino's Pizza) gives student discounts for food! CUNY is fantastic with internship/externship/research programs for undergraduate students. Best of luck!... Senior: Hey, so I'm a senior at University at Albany, SUNY, and I'm loving it so far! The variety of academic programs is awesome, and I'm already eyeing some research opportunities. Senior: I am currently in my fourth and final year at Roberts. In terms of academics, it is a small school, so you really get to know the professors. It is easy to meet with them one-on-one to help with any struggles. In terms of social life, I feel like there is always some event going on that students can get involved with. There are also a ton of groups that students can join in leadership roles to help put these events on. Sometimes these positions may come with a small scholarship! The people at Roberts are really the best part of the school. I've met some of my best friends here and have made hundreds of other connections with others across campus. In terms of faith, I can confidently say that I learned a lot more about Christ and have significantly built upon my faith since entering Roberts. Freshman: Staff, very welcoming, friendly that sort of deal. Campus is pretty easy to navigate, feels like walking 2-3 neighborhood blocks. All the professors I dealt with were super approachable, reasonable with deadlines, and they were really cool to talk to. You should definitely explore the local area in your free time and make friends with upperclassmen so that they can show you around. Loads of activities going around campus, community movie nights, sports games, sledding in winter to name a few. The hot food is GREAT 95% of the time but they have loads of other options too so you'll too disapointed in your dinner. Sandwich station? Life saver on those nights and just a good lunch in general. Our classmen are really friendly so if you ever feel lonely look around for a group and ask to join in to whatever they're doing. They'd love to accommodate you. Senior: I genuinely love Hilbert and I am going to be very sad when I graduate next May. All of the professors I have had are very hands-on and work well with their students. Alum: I had a really good first semester at Nassau Community College but unfortunately, I didn't get to experience my full year at Nassau Community College as the pandemic had hit and everything was shifted to online. Most of my professors that I had were very accommodating and patient to the transition. My only complaint would be that the advisors can sometimes be rude and not in the slightest bit helpful. I have one advisor that help me with a specific issue and basically told me to go to her for any help that I needed but then turned her back on me after I came to her in regards to another issue that had to do with my financial aid. Freshman: This college is good for people looking to save money but still get all of the required classes done so they can succeed with their full potential at other colleges. Overall the college remains clean and there are great people to connect with if you can approach and talk with people. The food is ok in the cafeteria but i would recommend against it most of the time unless you are trying to stay on campus. The classes are small most of the time and are better if you go in person rather than online learning, the online learning feels disconnected and is not easy to get things fixed in a timely manner when you run into issues online. In person the professors are really nice and easy to get along with while helping you reach your goals. Overall the environment at the north campus is great except for the outdated areas of the campus with a lot of construction going on most of the time so they can get everything updated. The Science Tutorial was my best resource for improving my grades. All profs offered office hrs and ensured their students do well. WCC offers refunds on dropped classes before a certain date.
