Sophomore: Boise State has given me some of the best experiences I could have hoped for at college. In high school, I was so self-focused on grades and help from peers but BSU offers so many resources that are easily available to assist me around every corner. Whether that be scholarships, which there are so many, or simply resume help. Not to mention if I'm ever bored, there is always some sort of activity going on every night. You should never be bored at this school. Food insecurity is no issue here, as there is a free food pantry for any student, as well as so many activities with free food. As someone who wasn't into going to sports games very much in college, I can readily say that I attended almost every football and basketball game at home base. They were always so much fun and so full of spirit. The students really go all out in colors and pride. Classes are great and have amazing professors. Senior: I was a transfer student to the University of Idaho that came from the College of Western Idaho in the spring of 2021. This was a very big step for me as I had never lived away from family, or even childhood friends. Moving to Moscow pushed me out of my comfort zone as I moved into a four bedroom apartment with three other girls that I did not know since it was separate leasing. On top of this, I was in a new town completely with no friends to hang out with, and was officially attending a bigger school in my eyes, with a ton more people I had to interact with daily. However, even with all of these new challenges thrown at me right away, I have experienced nothing but happiness and comfortability here in Moscow. It is a truly kind and friendly community all around, and the University has given me nothing but a great experience too. Sophomore: I have had an excellent experience so far. I was scared to go back to school after taking a ten year break after high school graduation, but they have helped make it a smooth process, and it feels like I never even left to begin with. The staff always make themselves available when I have questions or need help with assignments, the professors are just amazing with their advice and guidance that they have given thus far. My student advisor, bless her soul, I changed my degree three times within a year and a half, but she stuck with me and still helped me to figure out which classes I needed for each degree I wanted to change to! She even stuck with me through degrees that weren't in her field (until I decided on business, which apparently that degree has to have an advisor that specifically for business). Junior: My first two years with Lewis-Clark State College were a great experience. I earned my associates degree while still in high school, and was able to take all my courses online. My professors were extremely adept at teaching from an online forum. Their expectations were clear, and they were readily available to answer questions. Even through all my classes were online, I was still able to participate in extra activities such as events and writing articles for the Pathfinder, LCSC’s student-led newspaper. Sophomore: CSI - Golden Eagles located in Twin Falls, ID the home of the Snake River Canyon. This is a small community with lots of outdoor adventure possibilities. The CSI Rec. Dept. is a great connection to the outdoors with activities like kayaking, mountain biking, skiing and the like. They also offer rentals of outdoor equipment for students to go the adventure. Great community college offering many sports teams, Associate Degrees in Health Sciences; Agriculture, Liberal Arts, Business, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Computer Science, RN, Dental Hygiene, Fire Science, Education, Engineering, work development for industry trades like welding, mechanics and solar energy. There are so many supportive services like a food pantry and counseling. There are dorms, a book store and a Performing Arts center. Inexpensive, great science instructors and support community. Sophomore: I love the campus and faculty. The campus is beautifully placed next to Lake Coeur D'Alene, very close to downtown and restaurants. The food on campus is great, even just at the marketplace cafeteria, but Emery's restaurant, run by the culinary arts students is incredible and well priced! Most of my professors so far have shown great passion for what they teach and provide students with the resources needed to succeed. I have had some less engaged professors, but I still had enough resources to do well. Even in my online courses, I have been able to stay engaged and on track because of the well chosen course material. Considering the great array of courses offered, the return on investment is everything. It is really incredible what this small college offers in outdoor recreation and academic courses. Junior: I am not native to Idaho, but I have now lived here for 10 years. I knew I wanted to pursue a nursing degree and had slim options. Luckily, I work at a local hospital and knew which schools had good and bad reputations. I am one semester into the ARN program and the rumors are true - CEI students are prepared for hands-on patient care! We've learned skills that will serve us well in simulation and clinical settings. We have incredible instructors, many of whom still work in the healthcare field while teaching. Their knowledge is impressive and the one-on-one relationship you can form with them is rare and appreciated. I am very impressed with CEI as a whole. Freshman: I’ve really enjoyed this experience so far. It has its perks and its disadvantages as well. It provides a good chance to be able to work at your own pace which is great for students who are working or are parenting at the same time as attending this school. I think that something that could be improved would be the communication between students and professors. It’s a lot less personal and interactive than in person learning, which makes sense.
