Junior: Gonzaga is a special place for many students. The school spirit is always a mile high, and there’s always something to do on campus. As a Catholic student myself, Gonzaga (and the church on campus, St. Al’s) has many ways to get involved with my faith, including daily mass, weekly adoration and fellowship clubs, and campus Jesuits. On the academic side, I can’t speak too much on the different schools, but I know that the school of engineering and applied science is one where the professors care about the wellbeing of the students, and with a average class size of only 20-35 students, it’s easy to make a lasting connection with many of my professors. And Spokane city is beautiful. As of June 2023, we now have an electric bus that runs through campus every 15 minutes to bring students downtown, to other universities, and around the city. Other: I have yet to experience the atmosphere of Eastern Washington University as I am transferring from Bushnell University in Eugene, Oregon. However, in the enrollment and registration process, I can already tell I am going to love it there as my academic advisor is already ten times better than my last. I feel heard at Eastern so far which is more than can be said for my time at Bushnell. My time at Bushnell ended traumatically, and I am hoping Eastern provides me with a fresh start. I am hoping to earn this scholarship as I have no other way of paying for school. In transferring I lost my academic and athletic scholarships from Bushnell and I am unable to work due to injuries. Senior: Whitworth's advantage over other many other schools stems from its interconnectedness and the ability for students to engage with the community. Over 4 years, especially if the first two are on-campus, it is easy to get to know other students and professors well and become an actual, meaningful member of the college, rather than just a transient (which is all but inevitable in state schools). Small class sizes paired with strong faculty makes for an involved academic experience, and special care is put into students' personal growth as well as specialized career skills. Whitworth has a high-achieving sports program, though student sections can be a bit sparse. The music department also brings very strong performers who often go on to play at high-ranking graduate schools. The strongest departments are Education, all STEM, Psychology, Communications, and Theology/Philosophy. Weaker departments are Nursing, Theater, and non-Spanish languages. Sophomore: I love the campus and faculty. The campus is beautifully placed next to Lake Coeur D'Alene, very close to downtown and restaurants. The food on campus is great, even just at the marketplace cafeteria, but Emery's restaurant, run by the culinary arts students is incredible and well priced! Most of my professors so far have shown great passion for what they teach and provide students with the resources needed to succeed. I have had some less engaged professors, but I still had enough resources to do well. Even in my online courses, I have been able to stay engaged and on track because of the well chosen course material. Considering the great array of courses offered, the return on investment is everything. It is really incredible what this small college offers in outdoor recreation and academic courses. All in all, this is a great place to knock out first and second year level courses for a great value at a right amount of rigor, and to transfer credits to another college.... Read 654 reviews
