Freshman: So far, I have had a few problems with the university. I understand the goals of the institution and the objectives that the university strives to achieve. The diverse climate in the school is one of my favorite things about the school! The multiple backgrounds of students across campus and the specific groups have allowed me to witness and work alongside different people and similar people as myself. It has made me feel much more welcome and accepted. The only issue I hope to see improvement on within the next couple of years is the school's informational side. When searching online, I am hunting for information and having to call to find out things that I should easily be able to locate. These can include courses, financial aid, and teachers' profiles. If there was an easier system to figure out this information or to be able to view all of the information in one location, the process of application and viewing my situation would be much simpler and easier to perceive.... Freshman: I appreciate the convenience of the amenities available on campus. Staying in freshman dormitories is not as challenging or intimidating as some may think. The cafeteria operates until 8 PM on most nights, providing flexibility for dining. Tutors are available to give assistance upon request, and advisors monitor students' progress to make sure you're doing well during the semester. The campus has various quality-of-life enhancements, including food delivery services via bots. Concerns about dormitory roommates are lifted by the matching process, making sure you're partnered with someone similar to you . However, improvements are needed in addressing dormitory issues such as malfunctioning air conditioning and ceiling leaks. having these issues resolved before the student occupies the dorm instead of having to send work orders to get issues fixed would be nice.... Sophomore: Everyone is very kind and welcoming, They provided me with tools and resources for my online classes, and I appreciate that they have the tools for assistance with subjects that may not be fully clear. Registering for school was easy, and they were also accommodating. Now that I am attending in person and online, they have provided guidance and additional assistance with the schedule along with other tools for tutoring or questions that may arise during online classes so that you don't have to wait for the next in-person class with any questions or for clarifications. The teachers are very approachable. The flexibility this school has provided me as a single parent is the ability to do my prerequisites online. They offer a variety of majors and provide guidance for finances along with course information and in-school financial assistance, which has been helpful for those of us who do not have co-signers or help from family with our finances. Senior: I was quite nervous coming here as a non-traditional student. In fact, I had been to 3 other Universities prior to ENMU. I can honestly say that ENMU has far exceeded my expectations. As a STEM major, I was happy to find that the classes were on the small size. This was great because many of my professors made the effort to know their students name. Sophomore: CNM has been an absolutely wonderful school to attend. They provide so many resources and opportunities for all kinds of students. Associate's Degrees, Trade School Degrees, High School Diplomas, you name it! I enrolled full-time through the dual-credit program and ended up taking between 4-6 classes a semester. The professors and staff are really helpful and everyone truly cares about fostering success here! I'm excited to earn my Second and Third Associate's Degrees here in December. The online flexibility they provide also make it extremely convenient for busy students such as myself (juggling part-time work and full-time high school at the same time). While I prepare for the transfer process, I know CNM will always hold a special place in my heart. Do note that despite the many on-campus programs available, students are very anti-social, so try and find some friends from high school to come along with you! :) Also, campus is still a lot safer than UNM but still in a bad area.... Freshman: Attending Western New Mexico University overall has been a wonderful experience. However, if there had to be any changes, I would like to see more staff for the more complex courses. Having the option to choose an instructor for courses can be very beneficial for students especially since we all have different learning styles. Having a diverse group of instructors to choose from would benefit students immensely because it would allow us to choose an instructor whose material and teaching style/pace will be attainable to students who may struggle in these more difficult courses. Graduate Student: My undergraduate program at New Mexico Highlands University was a fantastic experience. I transferred from San Juan College when I graduated with my Associate's Degree. I went through the Social Work Program, attending through the Farmington, NM branch. The academic experience was not strenuous but challenged me to be involved with the school and the community. The internships I had throughout my program have been helpful and provided insight as to what I wanted to do for my career in Social Work. My internships taught me skills I need to refine and what I need to learn more about, like specific approaches and interpersonal skills. The program taught me a sense of accountability for my education and my drive to be in Social Work. It was daunting in certain areas, like making connections and advocating for myself. Other: Whoever decided to do away with the Solar Energy courses needs a serious Performance Review! Sophomore: It feels like home; I grew up around Gallup, New Mexico with full of childhood memories to teenage dreams of going off to college to become a full-time nurse student. I'm proud to come back here and finish my associates degree of nursing this year! Back in 2017 or 2018, I arrived here, and I felt like I was back in high school being comfortable with the teachers and students. It's a nice and small university, but full of positive energy. I would recommend the campus not to change in any way because being around with the right students and asking one of the professors for help is enough than changing the university. Junior: So far, the experience whilst AT SCHOOL...has been amazing. The experience(on my behalf) GETTING TO SCHOOL, is rough...as the local bus route only cater to people within city limits. That means, if you do not live near a main road/real street, you will be on your own in terms of getting to school. Niche User: The summer before my sophomore year in high school, I took a Public Speaking class. This was a summer course and it went through the months of June and July. I absolutely adored the class. My professor was AMAZING. She was so kind, generous, understanding and helpful. I had class with many different walks of life, which was so awesome to experience. Every instructor I've had was clearly passionate about the subject he/she was teaching.
