Alum: I was a music major at Carroll and I was pretty happy with the opportunities I had to perform and grow as a musician. Especially considering the fact that the University is largely focused on the DPT and Nursing programs. That being said, the music facilities could use some upgrades. A few renovations have taken place since I graduated, but the building itself is very old and needs some work. One of the biggest frustrations was the amount of times the music building is used for science lectures or other activities, when they just completed building 2 beautiful science buildings within the past couple of years. The small class sizes made it possible to develop close relationships with many of my professors, which was especially helpful when it came time to seek employment post-graduation. Freshman: My freshman year at Concordia University has been an amazing one and I am so glad that I chose to attend. Throughout the entire year I felt engaged on campus with all of the various on-campus activities, clubs, and athletics I could be involved in. I met so many amazing people and have made many connections that will last a lifetime. The small class sizes allowed me to connect with my professors and I feel that they all know me not only by name but also on a personal level. Sophomore: It is a great school. Public Safety is on duty 24/7, making sure the campus is safe. They have an app that you can download as well, Guardio, that you can download to stay alert with what's going on on the campus. They also have emergency phones scattered around campus that go directly to Public Safety and/or the police department. Security is top notch there, and professors are super nice too. Junior: Overall 5/5, Pros: It's a small campus in Tosa. It's a safe and intimate setting; most classes only have 30 people or less. Labs only have about 15 or fewer people. The campus is small, but not crowded. (across campus in less than 10 min) I love that the professors are available nearly 24/7, along with TAs (Tutors). This campus also encourages you to build professional relationships not only with your professors but also with peers. Activities are posted daily throughout campus. Housing is 6/5! Freshman and Sophomore housing are usually 2 people for 1 bathroom. (PLENTY of room for housing.) Cons: Due to the placement in Wauwatosa, you can't do much without a car. Having a car is HIGHLY encouraged. Milwaukee is exciting! Take advantage of the culture nearby. The food is also a 4/5, there isn't much diversity, and it doesn't cater well to those with food allergies/ diseases (like Crohn's). Junior: My time at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee started with my freshman year in the height of the pandemic. As an incoming freshman, I was weary about being in a heavily populated college during a time of troubled health. Freshman: I started the LPN program last month and was very apprehensive about making a career change. However, from the first day I requested info, the communication and process has been amazing. From Admissions, Financial aid, Instructors, Dean’s office, Regional Campus President and more… I mention that because they are all in high-level positions, yet very much involved with the students. Junior: I have a few credits to finish up for my associate degree. So far my experiences have been very positive. The Registered Nurse Program at MATC has been what I expected. I’m sure that the networking courses get into more intense material, but networking isn’t my favorite thing. The Support program does make me want to continue my education in nursing. I think that’s a positive. When I started back at MATC, it was difficult because I’d been out of school for something like 13 years. I didn’t know exactly what to expect or how I would adapt to classes again. I can’t think of anything that would have helped me first. It was definitely time to get back in school and it has worked out well. The only change I would make to the MATC program would be scheduling, There were plenty of courses that I wanted to take in class rather than online but the scheduling wasn’t available. Sophomore: Starting out I had no clue what I was doing. All staff was very nice, considerate and very patient. The instructors actually care about your future instead of treating students like a paycheck. The other facility staff always go out of their way to help anyone in need from academic support to peroneal support, such as giving out eatable food or gas cards since we are a commuter college. High school seemed like a nightmare compared to being a college student at Waukesha Technical College. Alum: I graduated from GTC in 2010 with my associate's degree. The advisors when going in to finish my pre-reqs did not properly put me in appropriate classes based on my ACT scores so I had to test out on some once I realized I was placed wrong and lost out on that money as it was too late for a full refund at that point even though it was their error. I did not appreciate the closed mindedness of one of the psych instructors and did fail their class as our personalities did not work out and he clearly did not appreciate my input. Once in my program though, my teachers were FANTASTIC! The smaller classes made it easy for the instructors to pay attention to all students and be able to dedicate time to ensure all understood or got extra attention if needed when struggling. Alum: MMU was one of the first campuses I toured. I loved it. Sadly, I was persuaded to attend a different university. I found my way back to MMU a few years later and completed my degree. Sophomore: Bryant and Stratton is a very good backup school, or somewhere you should look into it if you are looking to get back on track with your education. I had previously attended a 4 year before this, and to be at BSC and see how much more engaged the professors are and how they can cater to you as a person, and not a number was so refreshing! Another thing that stands out is the diversity. Being near the Milwaukee and Racine area, you will see lots of different people with different experiences and backgrounds. Being able to experience that from an educational standpoint, has done wonders for me and my ability to grow! One thing I would change is the on campus living. I actually stayed off campus, so this is a secondary source, but from the conversations I had with teammates and other classmates the living situation was very difficult.
