Freshman: So far though I have only been here minimally, a month and a half, my experience has been decent. My classes and professors are excellent and I have only had a few problems with the books store which professors have been understanding of. Professors are understanding and will listen if you have a valid issue that requires accommodations. My largest issue has been the lack of standardization amongst facilities. The older facilities are crumbling apart and unsafe, while the newer buildings are fantastic. This is specifically true with the residence halls. Some of the halls are desirable and excellent quality while others are unsafe. The difference is students must pay more for quality which is unfair. Students who come from lower-income families and situations shouldn't be forced to live in less satisfactory conditions. Otherwise, I have been enjoying myself. Sophomore: The university is small, which is excellent for accessing professors for help and assistance. Sometimes it is too small socially. The campus is quaint and beautiful during all seasons of the year. If anything could change, it would definitely be the food! As it is difficult to prepare large amounts of food for many students, there could be more offerings for students to get ample nutrition. The housing options offered are nice and expanding, however, it would be nice if there were more single rooms offered for students to have their own quiet spaces. Freshman: When I first toured Valley City State University, there were several things which immediately captured my interest and led to my applying there. First off, walking up to the university, I was struck by the beautiful campus. The buildings and structures were lovely, and walking down the halls and exploring different rooms I could feel that they were filled with history. Then I learned about their fantastic teaching program. I was planning to major in Mathematics education, and their teaching program was exactly what I felt I needed to begin my journey. I think what convinced me the most though, that this was the school for me, was the kind and friendly atmosphere of the campus. Everyone I met was genuinely and very helpful. I felt very welcome there. The only thing I might have changed was during my first semester is was required that I live in a dorm on campus which I couldn’t afford, so I completed this first year online to avoid that.
