Northwestern offers a wide range of courses on many different topics and because of the number of courses required to complete most majors (12-16), students in the College of Arts and Sciences are able to explore classes outside their majors at their leisure. The Quarter System can feel intimidating at first because of how fast-paced the courses can be but it also allows students to take more classes each year than a semester system which means students get to learn even more! Freshman: This college has a fun and lively campus with copious amounts of clubs, athletic opportunities, and areas to explore. The student body contains some of the kindest people I've ever met. The campus itself is very accessible for people with disabilities, and the bus system is perfect for whether you are traveling on or off campus. there's a huge promotion of wellness all across campus, making the environment feel very hospitable. In terms of my major, graphic design, all of the professors I've had are some of the most brilliant artists I've ever met. My peers and I all agree that we have learned such a large amount of new art concepts in what feels like a brief amount of time. Freshman: The professors are great and gives you time to learn about what you want to major in! I enjoyed how much my success coach wanted to help me and how much they cared for their student's success. Graduate Student: I started my first year at LCCC at the peak of the Pandemic in the fall of 2020. Every one of my classes for that first year were virtual classes met over zoom or asynchronously. While my preferred learning method is hands on, I will say that the professors of Lewis and Clark Community College made the best of the circumstances, and I had a great time. Junior: Western Illinois is a tight knit, wonderful community. There is so much diversity here, including a multi-cultural center. All of the professors are more than willing to work with their students. Most will make some personal connection with students to make them feel comfortable and more at home. The campus is beautiful! Sophomore: I think John Wood Community College is the nicest most well-put-together community college I've ever seen. Besides the fact that the campus is incredibly beautiful and clean, the education here has no comparison to other 2-year colleges. 99% of all instructors I've had I've enjoyed, mostly because I can tell they're all super passionate about the subject they teach. In particular, the philosophy classes are just enthralling. Matt Carey is the best instructor I've ever had and opened my eyes to my love of philosophy. I'm considering minoring in philosophy because of how wonderful those classes are. The staff here that are not instructors are always so passionate and helpful, always being able to help no matter the problem. It is incredibly cost-effective and there are so many scholarships available that a lot of students I know go here for free. I recommend this college to anyone who asks.
