Alum: They are best known for the fast track 12 month registered nurse associate degree or Occupational Therapy Asst degree, but the clinical medical assistant program (diploma) is the best kept secret. Super friendly instructors in a real-world learning environment got me mentally and knowledge wise prepared for the job. My new employer (weekday only doctors office) said she only hires from EVCC because we graduate prepared to work and have hands on skills. The admissions process is thorough so have your required paperwork in order before you start. It’s not hard but it’s important. Sophomore: Virginia Commonwealth University has been an adventure as a campus and university to learn under. The main aspects that differentiate VCU from most other universities in Virginia are the urban landscape, art forward movement, and the progressiveness of the university itself. I like the arty feel of the campus and university and I feel much more comfortable in this urban setting rather than the rural campuses like UVA. The campus can be accessed easily and is also very walkable. The main issues are the traffic and homeless people, but I don't find it much as a problem if you plan ahead, are generally cognizant, and kind. The programs and classes are exciting and not too unbearable. Though, I am a bit biased because my major is in psychology and I was not able to take most of the General Education classes due to my pre-existing credits. The professors are also generally great. Alum: PVCC was a great stepping stone for me before attending the University of Virginia. I did not feel like I was behind academically, and even felt ahead of some of my peers when transitioning to UVA. Some disadvantages of PVCC were that some professors graded far too harshly such that some classes lost some of their primary purpose of teaching the material. Advising at PVCC is okay but I'd highly encourage students to formulate their own game plan before making any decisions and use the advisors to verify. The social life at PVCC is virtually non-existent. Junior: So far everything has been great! Senior: I transferred into Liberty University as a junior, I was excited to be on a campus that loved Jesus. I have been challenged by the coursework, professionally developed through leadership programs, and grown deeply in love with Jesus. As a behavioral sciences and religion major, the classes are practical and applicable to the field that I am going in. My professors have a wealth of knowledge in their areas and care deeply about their students. The classes are not insanely difficult, but the material is challenging and insightful. There is opportunity to be mentored and developed holistically as a student and as a leader through programs such as residential assistant and others. While Liberty is amazing, I would desire to see more leniency in their approach to rules.
