Freshman: The university of South Carolina is very diverse. The professors are very genuine and passionate about what the teach. The campus is in the heart of South Carolina, Columbia. It gives you the mix of city life in a more southern area. The students are very kind and love to have fun. The athletic teams here work very hard and continue to improve each and every season. The campus has tons of options for affordable housing. I personally find the 650 Lincoln the best. The campus has many food options, from home-cooked food, to establishments such as Chick-fil-a, jersey mikes, Starbucks, and many more options. The student life is great, and very safe. The campus has its own police force, with emergency stations placed all throughout campus. It's known that if you press an emergency station, an officer will be there to help in less than 60 seconds. Sophomore: From my first visit here, I always liked how welcoming everyone is; people here really do go out of their way to be friendly and helpful a lot of the time. Converse also has some great professors! I can't speak much to departments I haven't taken a lot of classes in (such as STEM majors), but I love a lot of the humanities and arts professors; most of them have PhDs in their field and their enthusiasm for their area of study is evident in their teaching styles and interactions with students. Small class sizes are also nice as you actually get to know your classmates and professors (and it's easier to get the help you need). However, there are definitely accessibility issues on campus. Because the university and many of its buildings are very old, not all of them are fully accessible. Freshman: During my first year at Tri-County Technical College, I was surrounded by students and staff with a can-do attitude and a willingness to help others. The broadcasted and available support throughout the campus makes the students feel like they are not alone through their college journey, whether they are freshmen or seniors. Something that I enjoyed and made a difference in my academic career was the Student Success Center. There were many resources that were available in the center that could help with not only studying but for extra help if needed. Some of the resources that were available included; tutoring services, private study rooms, and the writing center. Something that I would like to see change is the hours of the campus store. The store closes at five-thirty. This closing time can be difficult for some students due to the times that their classes get out. Freshman: I definitely like my professors and the campus that Greenville tech has provided so far. The only con I have experienced so far has been the enrollment process. I had a difficult time getting in touch with an advisor at first and the overall enrollment process was lengthy and unlike other colleges I applied to. Besides that, my teachers have been amazing, the campus has so much to offer (even a Starbucks in the student success center!) Sophomore: I enjoyed the small class size, which allowed every student to easily access the office hours of a professor instead of frequently depending on the Teacher's Assistant. I also enjoyed the variety of extracurricular activities in the clubs and intramural sports, particularly, fencing, where I learned the basics of the sport and I was able to maintain the footwork and some techniques that I learned from kickboxing and boxing. However, I would love to see a major change in the night-time aesthetics. It is pitch black at night, with only a few blue towers with a red emergency button. This, along with he fact that the campus is open and has not fences, makes Winthrop a bit insecure at night for someone walking out of night classes, clubs, or meetings with friends. Sophomore: Horry-Georgetown Technical College is perfect for studying a specific subject you are passionate about pursuing professionally or just gaining your standard academic credits (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, History, etc.) to transfer them to a 4-year university. The academics here are great and the courses are quite flexible in terms of times of day and campus, whether that be in Georgetown, Myrtle Beach, Conway, or online. There is also a decent amount of diversity, and the prices are the best I've seen in the education world. Sophomore: During my (currently) short time at piedmont, the professors and staff have been of great assistance. I am taking online courses and getting support is moderately fast and helpful. Any services I have needed have more or less been resolved in 2-3 days. Although the majority is good, one thing that I wish Piedmont had as well as many schools in SC is a more diverse set of majors. While the provided majors offer more than ample opportunity to succeed, having more interesting fields outside of the norm would generate more traction in my opinion. As I have been a solely online student I cannot certain of the exact living environment of the Piedmont campus such as the housing, food, and student interaction. Junior: I attended years ago (in the 1980s), and I loved it then. Since then, it has expanded immensely and is 10x better than before! The reason I rated the party scene as poor is that drinking is not part of the campus atmosphere. It is a Christian University.
