Freshman: So far though I have only been here minimally, a month and a half, my experience has been decent. My classes and professors are excellent and I have only had a few problems with the books store which professors have been understanding of. Professors are understanding and will listen if you have a valid issue that requires accommodations. My largest issue has been the lack of standardization amongst facilities. The older facilities are crumbling apart and unsafe, while the newer buildings are fantastic. This is specifically true with the residence halls. Some of the halls are desirable and excellent quality while others are unsafe. The difference is students must pay more for quality which is unfair. Students who come from lower-income families and situations shouldn't be forced to live in less satisfactory conditions. Otherwise, I have been enjoying myself. Junior: NDSU is a great campus because it's not too big, but it's also not too small. It feels like the perfect size. I also think the campus is beautiful in terms of its scenery and architecture. There are some beautiful old buildings that have been kept in good condition without being totally refurbished. The professors at this school are amazing as well. They really seem to care about each student's success and they are actually quite informal a lot of times. I've had several professors whom I know on a first-name basis. Sophomore: The university is small, which is excellent for accessing professors for help and assistance. Sometimes it is too small socially. The campus is quaint and beautiful during all seasons of the year. If anything could change, it would definitely be the food! As it is difficult to prepare large amounts of food for many students, there could be more offerings for students to get ample nutrition. The housing options offered are nice and expanding, however, it would be nice if there were more single rooms offered for students to have their own quiet spaces. Freshman: When I first toured Valley City State University, there were several things which immediately captured my interest and led to my applying there. First off, walking up to the university, I was struck by the beautiful campus. The buildings and structures were lovely, and walking down the halls and exploring different rooms I could feel that they were filled with history. Then I learned about their fantastic teaching program. I was planning to major in Mathematics education, and their teaching program was exactly what I felt I needed to begin my journey. I think what convinced me the most though, that this was the school for me, was the kind and friendly atmosphere of the campus. Everyone I met was genuinely and very helpful. I felt very welcome there. The only thing I might have changed was during my first semester is was required that I live in a dorm on campus which I couldn’t afford, so I completed this first year online to avoid that. Junior: My experience with Mayville has been unique because I am an online student who is not located in North Dakota. Most of my classes and professors have been excellent and I have learned a lot through my courses. Administratively, there have been some set-backs and issues. I found Mayville while searching online programs since I'm the primary care taker of my two daughters an work part-time, so I needed flexibility and a great program. Mayville showed up as one of the best online programs out there. While I do think the professors are exceptional, I would love if they updated their program to be more flexible for solely online students and especially students that are not located in ND. Freshman: I would recommend TMCC to my fellow Native Americans students, because of the amazing opportunities it gives to there people. If you are struggling on your culture and trying to find more ways to learn more about the history of Native Americans this would be a great school to choose. They offer all kinds of extracurricular activities if you are into sports, science, cooking, business and pretty much anything you can think of they most likely have it. Yes this school involves all cultures, but I wanted to list the amazing options they have for Native Americans for them being a predominantly Native school. Freshman: I really like Dakota College at Bottineau. The staff are very friendly and are willing to help when you need assistance. In my previous class, I needed tech support and they were ready and willing to help me solve my technical problem. The instructors were there to help me with any questions I had and even made up some practice sheets for a class I was in for extra practice. I did all online classes. The only issue I had was I wish there were video lectures to help me understand what concepts I needed to learn.
