Sophomore: I am a half American half Spanish kid who grew up for most of my life in Spain. Junior: The vast majority of the professors at Regis are the most helpful and kind people I have ever met. Every professor I've had has always taken the time to answer any questions I may have, they have been patient with me and assisted me when I made the decision to change my major, and they've offered so much support in all of my ventures. They have also encouraged me to excel and to step out of my comfort zone which has made me a better and more enthusiastic student. Junior: UMass Dartmouth is a decent school. Everything about it is pretty good, if not better than than! The only things that could use any work would be the professors (seeing as some have thick accents, and others aren't the best at their jobs; but a majority are) and the dorms (seeing as there is no cooling in Sophomore dorms, which is a pain). The rest of the school and the experience there is, as said, good! While not a partier, there are a lot of parties that I've seen/heard about. The area around it is one that I've been in for most of my life. There are lots of stores, and a lot of food options if you don't like the food at the Grove (dining hall), Starbucks, Wendy's, the knock-off Subway, the ramen place, or the pizza place! There are many clubs and activities a few of which I've checked out an been part of. All of those experiences have been good. I have always felt safe on campus as well, as you should. Alum: Great school, but it was very difficult; so many people dropped out after the first few months. But, if you’re having difficulties or get stuck in any of your subjects there are people there to help you. I learned a lot! The only con I had was that there are not many women in the program, but sadly that’s common in the engineering field. Alum: I was a dual enrollment student at MCC for almost three years. I studied only virtually for my degree. It was a great experience. The staff and faculty in general were super helpful and supportive of the students. Something that could be improved is with the online classes, there’s really not much chance to get engaged with the MCC community. It’s hard to hear about new events and activities going on unless you somehow have a very close relationship with your professor. If you do happen to hear about events , programs, etc and get involved in other activities, it’s a very great learning experience and a chance to build your network. Sophomore: Holyoke Community College has been a really great experience for me. My psychology professors in particular are incredibly knowledgeable, and are great at providing supplemental support. Something I'd like others to know that it took me a while to realize is: you are not getting the short end of the sticky by going to community college! HCC's disability services are incredibly inclusive and I would not be where I am without their support and accommodations. HCC also has so many resources if you are in need of school supplies, menstrual supplies, housing, food security--the list goes on. Freshman: MassBay was the first school I'd attended after dropping out of high school for physical & mental health reasons. I was nervous at first, as I was used to schools overlooking my needs, or making classes inaccessible by default (e.g., in high school, my disabling fatigue meant that sometimes I couldn't attend class, and missing even one day was disastrous as it'd cause me to fall behind). This isn't the case at MassBay. My first in-person class was with Prof. Keegan, with whom I didn't even NEED to request accommodations, because he was so good about putting everything on Blackboard by default! I'm having a similarly positive experience with Prof. Bastien. MassBay's teachers are passionate about what they do, and I feel like they actually care about my success. Missing classes due to my health is no longer a "death sentence" for me. I'm not falling behind because of 1 missed day anymore!
