Graduate Student: I was at Upstate for 2 years finishing my bachelors in nursing. All of my professors I had throughout my time at upstate were all outstanding people and educators. Every single Professor I had was extremely kind and respectful to the all who had questions, and they always provided detailed explanations. During my 2 years, my brother developed acute myeloid leukemia, which caused a great deal of stress on my and my families lives which ultimately led me to struggle with school. I reached out to my professors at the time and they were incredibly supportive and understanding. They offered any assistance I needed without making me feel shamed for needing it. I’m incredibly great full for this school and the connections I have made. My mother is an alumni which is why I chose Upstate along with their excellent nursing program. Freshman: My experience at Narional has been good overall! The classes are set at a really good pace. The professors are super helpful and invested in the students. The only feedback for change that I have is the administration/financial aid side of things is kind of tricky once you are a student. I’ve been at National for 7 months now and still haven’t received my financial aid. Granted the school hasn’t been demanding I pay for my classes right now, I just have Large bill. Sophomore: St. Catherine University honestly feels like my home away from home. It is a homey and calming atmosphere to it especially with the smaller campus size. Junior: I enjoy going to school here. All fields of nursing are having trouble finding staff right now and academia is not exempt from that. Our instructors seem like they are spread a little thin sometimes, but they are phenomenal nurses. Each of them brings something a little different to the table, which I appreciate. All nursing programs are taught by NURSES… and while most are great at their profession, they might not be the most organized TEACHERS. But that’s just part of the deal with nursing school. Its important in any nursing program to work hard and take responsibility for your own education, because your instructors don’t spoon feed you. The self-motivation and discipline you learn here is what makes great nurses. The reviews stating this school does not offer tutoring are correct, but there’s a strong sense of community within your cohort. There is only one student led group on campus & they’re pretty small. Alum: After graduating from a community college I was really nervous to start a new school. I have to say I quickly fell in love with Mercy! It’s small, easy to get around and just all around so good. They really go above and beyond for the students. From petting farms brought to the school to destress for finals, catered Panera snacks, free zoo tickets, chic-fil-a dinners etc. They just went that extra mile. The staff is really great and they really have put so much into the building itself. It is expensive, please apply for all scholarships as I was awarded a few large ones! Don’t let that hold you back! If I would have kept trying to get into my community college nursing program I would still be waiting! That would have been wages lost so it equals out! Mercy is VERY easy to get into because it’s a private college! I wasted years at my community college on a degree that did nothing for me while waiting to get into the nursing program! Freshman: Stanbridge takes pride in making sure that their students succeed and I can agree. Although it is only my first term, all the professors and advisors that I have met have been very helpful. Some improvements that can be made are with parking and technical difficulties. Despite the expansion of the overflow lot across the street, parking is still very difficult to find considering that there are so many cohorts on campus at one time. In my honest opinion, the Edverum website can be improved by being able to see your grades for all your classes on one page. Another thing that should be changed is where we can see all the assignments that are due during the week all on one page too. These two enhancements can help create an efficient workspace for students. On the other hand, I wish the communication was better between the staff and students. Alum: They are best known for the fast track 12 month registered nurse associate degree or Occupational Therapy Asst degree, but the clinical medical assistant program (diploma) is the best kept secret. Super friendly instructors in a real-world learning environment got me mentally and knowledge wise prepared for the job. Junior: Love the campus! The coursework is rigorous no matter your major, but there's tons of classes that are so niche and interesting to explore! This school will give you a challenge for sure! Having to apply to your major is a huge downside-- there's a decent chance you might not get to study what you want if the major is competitive and your GPA and statements aren't competitive enough (there's just too many students). Similarly, you can't take major classes until you get accepted into the major (which usually isn't until your junior year), so that can delay the graduation process if you don't schedule and plan your degree right. Because of the large student body, everyone is clawing for everything-- registration for classes is a nightmare, long lines at dining halls and events, etc. (you can expect to sometimes wait more than an hour for food, applying to housing/registration takes hours as well because the server is being filled with so many students)....
