Freshman: The New York Automotive and Diesel Institute is very welcoming. From the moment you step on the campus, the staff instantly makes you feel like family. The first thing that catches your eye would be the display and how the classrooms are set up. The school also offers multiple opportunities to the new, incoming students, showing you just how far you can go with your education. Sophomore: Suffolk Community College is the ultimate gateway towards your field of study. As a conglomerate of buildings throughout Long Island, it’s like they have almost everything that someone would like to study. It is nice to have professors that are very passionate. Sophomore: Although the many buildings can be daunting to a new coming student, the environment remains warm and welcoming. The professors are fluent in their field and very accommodating to all kinds of circumstances and are genuine in their attempt to reach out to any student that may be struggling. There is a plethora of clubs, programs and other extracurricular activities available to every student - including an accessible gym and a swimming area. In my year and a half attending, it is clear that I made the right choice in picking a school accommodating of those who seek flexibility and opportunity. Despite my major (political science) not being prolific or popular, it is very easy to maintain and build connections with other students in classes or in the general campus area. The area is also accommodating of students by maintaining multiple places to eat or grab a drink if needed - in fact, there are starbucks located inside multiple buildings. Alum: I had a really good first semester at Nassau Community College but unfortunately, I didn't get to experience my full year at Nassau Community College as the pandemic had hit and everything was shifted to online. Most of my professors that I had were very accommodating and patient to the transition. My only complaint would be that the advisors can sometimes be rude and not in the slightest bit helpful. I have one advisor that help me with a specific issue and basically told me to go to her for any help that I needed but then turned her back on me after I came to her in regards to another issue that had to do with my financial aid. Sophomore: Overall I liked QCC. They have lots of free programs to help students in STEM. There are opportunities for undergraduate research, on campus jobs, and free tutoring. Some clubs are good like the robotics club, but some are also bad. We had play with 4 puppies, pizza, and a carnival like event during a club once. The social life is what you make of it. QCC really helps to create a community and the campus is beautiful. I enjoyed most of my time in college and can’t wait to graduate debt free! Some advice - take classes at QCC while in high school or use CLEP and AP exams. You can accelerate your degree and save money or time. Also, summer STEM classes have their tuition waived for one class. Whichever CUNY you choose to go to, remember that you can always “epermit” a class at another CUNY. I used an epermit for a class at Queens College. I like QCC’s smaller classes. You get more help and guidance from professors. Most are nice and lenient. Rate my professor will be a lifesaver.... Graduate Student: I loved this college! I loved KBCC! Firstly, it has a great location with ample space for college events. The college organizes various events with games and food. Additionally, KBCC has its own art gallery where every student has the opportunity to showcase their artwork. The president may even purchase standout pieces for the KBCC art collection. The college also has a fantastic farming space where organizers grow vegetables for students, professors, and the cooking program. Volunteering is also encouraged. KBCC offers a diverse range of clubs, a great library with eight floors and a stunning view, as well as excellent sports facilities. Alum: At the time I attended and graduated, it was called UCC for short. In non abbreviated terms, Union County College. This college and their professors were fixing and truly innovating their school and uplifting to students. I really became close to many professors and I can attest, you can't find that elsewhere. This warmth made me felt how much they cared. Believe me it wasn't just their surroundings and how rich it looks but their students. Alerts from the school was majority of the time accurate, most of the professors were professional. Although, you will find some that aren't. The cafeteria is always clean the food always delicious! I enjoyed their events, the clubs and trips they offered. The only thing I would like to see change, would be the catalogs as I can remember. They had many for example as an education major. Freshman: I came to Rockland Community College as a reverse transfer student after bad experiences at my previous 4-year university - and I could not be happier! I was instantly accepted by everyone, and the students are very supportive of one another. I have never met such an inclusive and diverse group of people. For a community college, I believe that the education I have received so far has been superb. Sophomore: My experience at Passaic County Community College has been good overall. For a student that is not completely sure of what career they would like to pursue, I would recommend enrolling in a 2-year college first. PCCC has given me the accessibility on time and financially to be able to work and study at the same time. I have been able to be part of the organizations like SGA which has helped me develop communication and social skills. This organization has helped me to connect more and be involved in college activities, and also participate in outdoor activities. PCCC is very diverse, you can connect with people who share the same ethnicity and likes. Something that I would like to see change is the advisement help offered to students. Freshman: Lincoln Tech offers three programs from Electrical, HVAC to Automechnical work and knowledge. It's a great program, although there's a lot to cover and it's not immediate hands-on action. They cover the basic concepts, simples math revolving around the trade and they may get some feeling room for the trade to be generalized. The students are determined people looking to get into their desired trade, sure there are a few hiccups, but the students get brought on track with ease. They have a food truck that sits outside of the building and it's a pay to receive deal, but the food is very good. There is a breaktime for each trade and I'm unsure what it is for each program, ill say 1:00 PM just in case it is the same. It's important to note that each instruction is different and they each have a different approach to a certain topic, there's always a learning experience no matter with whichever instructor it may be. Graduate Student: Housatonic is a great community oriented school. I decided to go there to complete my pre-requisite for Dental Hygiene and all of my credits were transfers. I love the campus and professor so much that decided to complete my associates degree and Health Science certification. Freshman: I am beginning my academic journey to becoming a certified automotive technician in about a week now. I've been on multiple tours of the campus and it is large enough to have a shop with room for multiple cars, and it offers a variety of choices from mechanics to manufacturing. The students wear uniforms and overall seemed like a diverse crowd and the professors I talked too were all very outgoing and are masters in their respective fields. Safety is of top priority and is taken very seriously but when you want to kick back on your breaks you can drive right down to Chick-fil-A or any of the other various stores nearby to pass the time. Graduate Student: When I learned that healthcare was the best industry to find employment opportunities, time and time again I heard the Hunter Business School in Levittown was the place to go. From the first telephone inquiry, through the financial aid process, as a student and then as a job hunter with the help of Career Services, I always felt respected, valued, and appreciated. I have learned so much from all of my instructors. They were always able to meet outside of class time to work on something that I couldn't figure out or make time to teach some finer points outside of class time. I found the distribution of Chromebooks and text materials seamless. My advice for future students is to take advantage of the time you have with your instructors. Engage with your classmates!
