Freshman: During my first year at Tri-County Technical College, I was surrounded by students and staff with a can-do attitude and a willingness to help others. The broadcasted and available support throughout the campus makes the students feel like they are not alone through their college journey, whether they are freshmen or seniors. Something that I enjoyed and made a difference in my academic career was the Student Success Center. There were many resources that were available in the center that could help with not only studying but for extra help if needed. Some of the resources that were available included; tutoring services, private study rooms, and the writing center. Something that I would like to see change is the hours of the campus store. The store closes at five-thirty. This closing time can be difficult for some students due to the times that their classes get out. Sophomore: Took most of my prerequisites online and had a pretty good time adjusting. Online classes, I wouldn't recommend for people that aren't the best with computers or have a hard time learning computer stuff quickly. Your classes will be online still even if your in person but you'll have actual class time compared to recorded lectures or zooms throughout the week. The staff has been very helpful and usually answers their emails quickly but sometimes they can't answer the question or don't respond as fast as a student may want and your SOL and have to figure out things on your own. You want to be on top of your schedule cause you may not get emails on things to remind you and you may get help from an advisor for a new class and haven't been fully signed up because you needed to review it yourself. Sophomore: BJU is a really great school! The academics provide a challenge that really makes you feel like you earned your degree. The campus life is great as well. All the students and faculty that you meet just walking around campus are very kind and friendly. The biggest thing for me is the Christian atmosphere at BJU. This school is really helping me grow as a person, academically, socially, and spiritually. The atmosphere of the school, however, (enforced by the rule book) is very conservative so if you have a problem with more traditional-style rules then this isn’t the school for you. The biggest thing I would change about the school is the price. While more affordable than some other college, financial aid is still required.
