Alum: Experience? What comes to mind when I think of my experience at San Joaquin Valley College Bakersfield campus, is amazing instructors. I was worried going in to the electrical technology program that I would be treated differently, but I was wrong. I was treated just like every other student that showed up everyday on time and ready to learn. When the campus started to open back up SJVC had a few issues that got lost in translation between new staff and students. With that being said SJVC handled these minor hiccups promptly and sufficiently. I went the extra mile and received my A.S. degree and was helped every step of the way. The staff at SJVC understands that life happens, and realizes that students have a life and family outside of the campus and your studies. When a situation arises they are here to help in anyway possible. The staff at SJVC will become part of your family. Well, at least in my personal experience they have. Freshman: I recently started at Bakersfield College after being out of school for 20 years. To say I was nervous to return to college would be a huge understatement. On my first day on campus, I immediately felt welcome. Student services and staff were set up at tents welcoming new and returning students to the campus. The enrollment process and every other facilitator or staff member have been beyond helpful. They make the process very easy. The amount of opportunities are endless. The school has a strong athletics department and they are proud of their accomplishments. I also have been impressed to learn about the large amounts of work opportunities, clubs available, programs in place to help a student succeed, tutoring services, and online class opportunities.
