Junior: I like to describe myself as an extroverted introvert - I like to socialize and hang out with friends, but I don't like being surrounded by large crowds on a regular basis, like in big universities. Grinnell, in that regard, is amazing. I met many of my close friends here and I am really grateful for all of them. Academically speaking, Grinnell is incredibly rigorous. If you are up to the challenge and are willing to put in the effort to keep your GPA high (yes that will inevitably be harder here than most other colleges), then you're in for a great, challenging, yet rewarding journey that will take you really far whether it be in the corporate or the academic spheres. That being said, one thing I would like to see change is Grinnell's needless focus on their luxurious endowment of 2+ billion dollars. Though that is a lot of money, barely any of it is going towards the students' benefit in my and many of my friends' experiences. Don't let the endowment talks sway your college choice!... Alum: Dordt isn't perfect (no college is), but in my experience as a student for 4 years, I loved it. Dordt is a school that puts faith first and they really invest in making people feel welcomed and known. I was challenged, encouraged, and supported the whole way through by faculty and staff, both academically, professionally, and spiritually. I met all of my lifelong friends here and due to the relationships built with my professors, I'd consider some of them friends too. After graduation, I felt prepared with the proper professional tools/skills to work in the field I am now. Yeah, Dordt is located in rural Iowa, but there was never a week that I was bored! There was always something to do with my friends. The campus is pretty old, and most of the buildings do not have A/C. Sophomore: The University of Northern Iowa is a very small, easy to get around campus that has lots of activities and chances for involvement. I loved that the campus staff, faculty and professors were always there to help students with any needs. All of the advisors were very understanding, encouraging and helpful when going through the process of deciding and changing majors. All of the classrooms are well kept which helps provide a safe learning space. One of my all time favorite aspects was their inclusivity to those with disabilities. As a disabled individual I was worried that going into college I would not receive the accommodations I rely on. However, the campus diversity and inclusion office was great at assuring that I have everything I need. The only thing I would change about this university is professor/student relationships. Freshman: I absolutely love this college. They have great online opportunities for students who can’t attend on campus. I personally can’t do on campus so I’m fully online which is great because it gives me more time and space to have a full time job and career to build. The staff are especially great. Freshman: I enjoy the campus and how the college reaches out to students. They plan a lot of fun activities for students. SCC cares about the students and teaches them to prioritize their health, whether physical or mental. That is important in college, so having faculty care about you gives you the encouragement to continue your education and the journey to your dream career. I love that it is a small campus because I do not have to take a shuttle bus to get to my next class. I am able to walk and enjoy the scenery leading to my class.
