Sophomore: My experience at NAU has been a dream. All of my professors this past year were hard-working and gave their all when it came to their students. I always felt supported by the university through their facilities and programs such as Peer Jacks, free math tutoring, and even the courses such as First Year Seminar, which was the perfect introduction into a new place with new people. With every college there are some downsides however. I found that considering the amount of undergraduates at the university, the lack of staffing for counselors made it almost impossible to be seen. In order to get a meeting with my counselor about upcoming class registration, I have to book an appointment months in advance in order to get ahead of their busy schedule. I think this small thing could be fixed with just adding some people in that department in order to accommodate for the university enrollment. Junior: I love ASU! The polytechnic campus is smaller so its easier and faster to get from one classroom to the next. I absolutely loved my professors! They all feel like they actually care about our education and our concerns. I'm learning the material and when I have questions, I'm not afraid to ask the professor. I love all the events that happen on campus, especially the free food! My favorite place is the library! I can go there when I need some peace and quiet and the librarians always have book suggestions that actually help me. I can put my headphones on and relax on the couches and study for my classes. The community at the polytechnic campus is strong. I always feel so welcomed. Make sure to join a club, the clubs are always so worth it. I wish there were more choices for food on campus. Sophomore: ASU online is a self-paced learning environment. Professors upload pre-recorded lecture videos and assignments on Canvas, there is no set time that a student must log in to class. While I mentioned that the course work is self-paced, there is still deadlines to be met. My greatest struggle with this was time management. As a Starbucks shift supervisor, I work around 35-40 hours weekly. It was recommended by my academic advisor to allocate around 20 weekly hours per class. Professors were accomodating, help center was open 24/7, and there were so many resources available for online students. I struggled to practice self discipline and motivation, as no one was there to hold me accountable. Despite my struggles in time management and discipline, I was extremely satisfied with my experience in virtual learning! One improvement I'd like to see is an increase in student interaction. Sophomore: It was very good. I took live online classes because it was in COVID times, but it was still good given the circumstances and the affordability of it. I was happy with it, and basically the only things I would improve would be to make sure the students are understanding and don't have questions before moving on and on from lesson to lesson. I experienced this in my math class. I had straight A's in all of my classes--except for math class. This happened both semesters of the year I did college online in COVID times. The professors at this school were all quite good, I was happy with them. Most of them were very competent and good at explaining and teaching, and even the few that weren't seemed to care a lot about the well-being of the students, and be sympathetic to our situation with all the COVID online weirdness going on. Alum: My experience at Chandler-Gilbert Community College was an amazing one. I don’t even know where to begin! I took so many different courses and learned exactly what I needed to and more. Sophomore: PVCC is a great school to start your college journey. The classes are affordable, the campus is easy to navigate, and the professors are usually pretty great. When deciding on a degree path, the advisors are excellent at helping you get on track. My last two semesters there were a bit confusing and I was having difficulty figuring out what classes I needed to sign up for so that I could properly transfer my credits to the graduate school I chose. My academic advisor was thorough and replied to my messages quickly. He made sure I was on the right track and everything has gone through correctly. The counseling office was also helpful. Classes and home life tend to be stressful for me, but having access to professionals in counseling that I could meet with for free was a blessing to me. Graduate Student: The campus is clean and very easy to navigate through. All my teachers were very understanding and kept the communication very clear and open. I feel blessed to have had not only great teachers but a nice well kept college close to home. From the FinAid to registration personnel all Departments were accommodating and courteous! Freshman: Enrolling and applying for Cochise College was extremely easy with plenty of people available for questions and help. The entire staff I had interreacted with made enrolling and understanding things like finances and tuition much more approachable and smooth to go through, espeically while requesting disability accommodations. Planning and holding meetings were quick and very efficient to get what I needed with little to no hassle. I really appreciated how approachable they made each task instead of surrounding the whole process of enrollment and figuring out my tuition with even more dread. Freshman: For my first semester doing online classes was a neat experience. Both instructors were on top with communication if you needed help understanding the assignments or having difficulties with it or even needing an extension for technical reasons that one could be struggling. The fact that they have student services where one can take opportunity to use whether it's getting help with essays or math by tutors or using their online tutoring services for free which makes it stress free. Also services to assist in how to find scholarships and learn how to write scholarship essays too. Everyone there is helpful and courteous which helps calm any anxiety and can answer any questions you may have about enrollment, financial aid and such. In regards to what I would like to see change would be a big change but it would be nice instead of having to commute to a different city MCC campus for a profession that isn't taught at Kingman MCC.
