Sophomore: My first year at UAA was mostly spent online with only two in person classes. However, I could not have asked for a better first year experience. Every single professor I had totally exceeded my expectations and made me feel very accommodated. I spent a lot of time at the library, I loved how easy the study rooms were to book and how clean they always were. I also noticed around March the Kaladis opened back up! I also am so happy that campus is so close to midtown and the Fire Island in Airport Heights, it makes it so easy to grab food before next class or before you get ready to spend hours studying in the library, like I did. I would like to see more student events and student life present on campus, I think that would create a much more inclusive and fun environment. I also think the Group Study rooms should be available to single students as well. Sophomore: I like the option for Occupational Endorsements as opposed to an Associate’s, I was able to get specialized in Sustainable Energy while working toward my Bachelor’s. Many programs have funding (and travel funding!) available. Online courses can be less expensive and flexible to travel or live/study remotely during the cold winter months in the Fall semester. While this is primarily a school that has a lot of graduate students, there are so many opportunities for undergraduate research in Alaska. The university is small, so it is important to establish good connections with one or two faculty. Staff are always available and interested to help. The Student Health and Counseling Center has been very important to my educational journey as a first generation student. If I could change anything it would be the campus design, since departments are physically separated from each other. Junior: UAS is absolutely the right school for me. It's small size allows me to form personal relationships with professors, administration, and staff. Our student services staff (including disability services) are very passionate and willing to help. Our campus housing is miles above most schools, though the meal plan is not very good. This school is full of passionate people who care about your education. There are also lots of opportunities for on-campus jobs and research. This is by no means a party school, but you will have no trouble socializing, and there's always the bars off campus. There are a few areas where we are underfunded, but those problems are not deal-breakers for me. I love UAS, and I am proud of my school. We have many peculiarities that come with our small size, but I think they mostly add to what is good about this school.... Read 225 reviews
