Freshman: Barry University is both a place of comfort and a place that pushes you to step out of your comfort zone. Being at Barry, you are introduced to different people from different parts of the world. Despite how diverse it is, everyone is treated equally. Graduate Student: The professors were excellent! I had many that engaged with their students, always ensuring the class was on everyone's level while also going at a pace where everyone understood the assignment. The professors also weren't pushy and didn't pile up work on students, they understood we had lives to tend to and made it manageable to work with. The school and faculty themselves also were elementary and forward going, if you had a question it would be answered, and if we had opinions about something they never went unheard. The campus itself was very safe, I never had any issues of being scared to walk from the building to my car, and I made friends very quickly and connected well too. Freshman: I will attend FMU in the Fall of 2023. I will be a freshman and play on the basketball team! I had a visit over Spring Break this year and felt an immediate connection with the campus, the coach, and the students I met. the majority of my middle and high school career was spent at a private school, which I believe, definitely prepared me for college, but I was one of the few black students and the only black male student in my class. My senior year I was able to go to a public school where the amount of black students was about 50% of the population, and I played football and basketball in city leagues which allowed me to be around people who looked like me, so I never lacked that in totality. I like the size of FMU's campus, it's an HBCU, and it speaks to who I am and who I will become. I know I will learn new things about myself and my learning style.
