Alum: Chipola College offered an escape from the hellish nature of high school. I began my journey here during my junior year. As a dual enrolled student, I needed a flexible schedule. I was able to take classes early in the morning and late in the evening. I attribute much of my success to the thoughtfulness of my professors. My high school was failing to teach me what I needed to know. Then, I attended Chipola and finally felt like I was being reasonably prepared for life beyond the small town I inhabited. I eventually became a full time student and graduated with a 4.0 GPA and an AA degree. Sophomore: Florida Gateway College is a great school! There are so many activities and options open for a student. There are always events going on and the professor comes to the activities, even when they start during your class time. The professors are great teachers, in the short amount of time you get with them, you get to them know them and they get to know you. There is associability between the library, student center, and student success center. You can study, do homework, find tutors, and even make new friends! Florida Gateway is a wonderful public college that I have enjoyed, the advisors are so friendly and helpful. I recommend FGC to all my friends looking for a great college to go to, I know the big named schools like UF and FSU are places that everyone wants to go but FGC is an amazing environment and their options for classes and degrees are wonderful as well. Freshman: My experience so far as it being my first year of Centralia College is really good! At first it was very intimidating considering I’m still a senior in high-school, but once I knew how to navigate better I got a better idea of how I fit in and how I can get involved. I really like how everyone is very friendly and helpful at the college, and the recourses are fairly easy to navigate. Some things I would like to see change is I would like to see the college offer more programs such as a dental program. Sophomore: I love my experience at Ivy Tech! The staff is very helpful and truly want you to be successful. And they are pretty cheap. Alum: I from my personal experience I loved Eastern Gateway Community College. Although it’s in Ohio I got connected to the school through a Union program here in Texas for veterans that allowed em to get my Associate degree for free. I also pretty much loved that it the school let me get my degree completely online. This allowed me to care for my newborn while being both a full time student and employee. The school always kept in touch with me, the admission process was a quick and straightforward. Sophomore: I love Suffolk! The class sizes are reasonable, the professors are great, the cafe is good and the administration offices are very helpful! I'd suggest this school to anyone looking for a community college on Long Island close to home. There are sports teams and a gym, child care, and a drama club. Lots of clubs, actually. The counselors and advisors are always available to help and the phones are answered very fast whenever I call. I started school at Suffolk in 2005 and had to withdraw for personal reasons; I returned in 2022 in my mid-30's and have never felt more welcome somewhere. I am so glad to be returning to school and finishing my degree. I am glad I chose Suffolk to get my associates and can further my education somewhere else afterwards with the general studies out of the way from a community college only 20 minutes from my house. Freshman: My experience with Hillsborough Community College during my first year was great. Just like how teachers from high school would explain, especially from AVID classes, college is very flexible as we can simply pick our classes, our teachers, and what days and times we want throughout the week. However, certain student advisors are very verbally brutal - especially with my experience at the Brandon campus, this kind of damaged me mentally, and I was discouraged easily with my first major as I thought my prerequisite GPA was nowhere competitive. Another small issue I've noticed during the spring season, from the Brandon campus alone, are the invasion and growth of little fuzzy caterpillars outside the buildings - those little critters quite scare me. Other than that, Hillsborough Community College has been a wonderful experience so far and their SGA has been so active to help many dedicated students at ease! Sophomore: San Jacinto College is a very interesting but rather calm experience for the average student. The same can't be said for Dual Credit students though. Balancing high school with SanJac is hard. However, the school's atmosphere is marvelous. There are many resources in the library at every student's disposal. Junior: Long Beach City College was the first college I enrolled in after sustaining my traumatic brain injury. Senior: I have loved my time here at Austin Community College! The professors I’ve had have been AMAZING, and my academic advisor (Vanessa) with the school has gone above and beyond for me on several occasions. I am one semester away from transferring to UT, and I’ll miss this place after I transfer out. Also, they have done a PHENOMENAL job concerning the pandemic.
