Junior: To start, living on my own in the city has been an authentic experience that has helped me grow as a young adult, taking on new responsibilities and meeting different people! Overall, college is what you make it. There are so many resources and opportunities, some clearly offered and pushed, and some just found by research or who you know (so be friendly and make connections!). Regarding classes, my professors are very inspiring, with expertise and experience. With the educational aspect, you'll learn the concrete information (rules and details of a concept) by studying and reading; you have to put in your own effort if you want to learn, either on your own time out of class, or for an assignment. Discussions and work in class with the professor are more on the abstract side of things, regarding ideals and philosophies, making you think about the world around you and how you can make a positive impact. Alum: I genuinely enjoyed my time at The New School; despite the fact that the entirety of my time as a student there was affected by the global pandemic (I was a student from 2020-2023), I feel that I learned so much from my professors and peers, and I was still able to connect with likeminded people who have become dear friends. I felt there was a great environment at TNS for me as a student, where both my creative and academic work was fully supported. I can't say enough positive things about the professors-- I felt that all of the professors I had during my time at TNS genuinely cared about their students and their students' success. Freshman: Berkeley College is located in Midtown, in the center of Manhattan, about a 5-minute walk from Grand Central Station. It is very convenient for transportation. Near the school, there is also a famous park, Bryant Park where many students can spend their class breaks with friends. The school is very cleaned and the classrooms, library and computer room are very comfortable. It is also attractive that I can graduate earlier than other universities with a flexible schedule and a system of three semesters. Especially, staffs of the international student office are all kind to students. They help us anytime and sometimes invite us to some events the college or other organizations held. Senior: John Jay is a great choice for many students. I can personally speak to my experience as a STEM student in the Forensic Science major. The class sizes are small, so students have a more meaningful relationship with their mentors. There are lots of clubs and campus activities for students to partake in, and it's not unusual to be on my way to class to randomly see goodie bags or free food for an event in hound square! John Jay does not have a traditional campus feel (most of the population is made up of commuters) but makes up for it with its facilities. The JayWalk is a gorgeous courtyard where students often relax between classes and enjoy the weather. Furthermore, there are so many hidden gems for food and recreational activities in the blocks surrounding campus, which feel very safe. In fact, a few food places (shout out to Justino's Pizza) gives student discounts for food! CUNY is fantastic with internship/externship/research programs for undergraduate students. Best of luck!... Alum: Barnard is very unique, as it’s an undergraduate college of Columbia University (yes, that makes it an Ivy League) but also a tight-knit women’s college. The Columbia Daily Spectator calls it “the only women’s college in the Ivy League.” Lots of recruited athletes at Columbia can go to Barnard instead of CC (Columbia College). A lot of friends were recruited CU athletes at Barnard. It’s also different from other women’s colleges because it feels like a women’s dorm at Columbia. It’s sooo integrated and feels co-Ed! The leaders of most Columbia clubs are Barnard women tbh. It can be annoying to constantly explain to people that Barnard is 100% integrated with the other schools at CU though. The internships at Barnard are INSANE. I was a history major and got internships at top investment banks, big tech companies, famous TV shows and more. Niche User: What I remember about Pratt the most were the encouraging professors and helpful faculty. Architecture students were by guided skilled, professional instructors. They empower their students and are always available for extra help. Counselors are also super helpful with anything regarding courses and financial aid. The curriculum was well paced. Writing assignments helped boost design thinking. Each semester developed our design creativity. Design studios can be tough at first. More importantly, studios were a collaborative environment where we learned to work with professors. In each class, everyone's input is valued. Freshman: Manhattan School of Music is an amazing experience. The professors within my major are top notch experts who encourage the growth and individualism of all students. The diversity is very poor, which is difficult for minority students. Additionally, core classes outside of my major (such as humanities) are very poorly taught and the professor has frequently made offensive remarks. The experience at Manhattan School of Music can vary vastly depending who your head of department is. However, I think we all understand that we have come to this school to train, not party. We all have a fierce desire to master our major and we all understand the privilege of getting to study under masters of our subject. It is definitely not perfect, but overall I have had a wonderful experience so far and I would highly recommend my program to anyone who can afford it. All of my professors were phenomenal and I was able to get a good overview of what options I had in the first two years; I did not declare a major until the summer before my Junior year. Freshman: I am enjoying Medaille college (Medaille University) I just finished my first semester and I really enjoyed all my classes and I live on campus and i also enjoy the dorm room. you are assigned 1 roommate and you sleep in the same room with different beds and the only other room is a bathroom but the room is decently big so we get by. I personally enjoy it. as far as my classes they are less difficult than high school but I also feel like I comprehend more than in high school I firmly believe that Medaille college is a great college! Sophomore: I think that Ithaca is an amazing college! All the professors and faculty are lovely and genuinely care about the students. The classes are all taught well and there is no shortage of specialty classes (and general classes as well). The campus itself is beautiful and the surrounding area is as well, with lots of different things to do and places to go to - especially if you like to be outdoors. I do have to say, that I wish the campus was more accessible for those who are disabled though. And the food in the dining halls aren't the best. And the wifi can be spotty. But most of these can be overlooked (not the lack of accessibility), because overall there isn't a place that I would rather be in.
