Junior: My experience at St. John Fisher University has been nothing but amazing. The university really values each and every student to ensure that they are in good standing whether it be in academics or socially around campus. There are many activities to participate in on a daily-basis around campus to help students to get involved. In addition, there are tons of clubs on campus that are constantly looking for members to join and be active in. As far as athletics, St. John Fisher participates in Division III Athletics and has many sports teams for both men and women, varying from football to rowing. The food on campus is outstanding and never disappoints to offer a variety of foods that you have a tough time choosing between. Senior: There is a reason that the CIA is one of the best culinary schools in America. One of those reasons are because of how much experience you get from the qualified teachers who work there. There are many kitchen classes that teach you a variety of techniques. As a baking and pastry student, I get the opportunities to learn about breads, cakes, pastries, and confections (like chocolates and jellies) in relatively detailed classes, even though most kitchen classes are only 3 weeks to learn everything. Then I get to work in restaurant classes that use to serve the public (pre-pandemic times), but now still serve students. It's a tough school with a difficult program, but if you're willing to work hard it is worth the effort. Junior: I love my experience at Skidmore. My first year, I was able to take a variety of classes in different departments to figure out where I felt most at home, and many of our classes are interdisciplinary. It is easy and encouraged to have multiple majors/minors, and most professors are amazing! They truly are a great resource that I was not expecting to have, especially coming from a bigger high school. I have been fortunate to hold several campus jobs, including being a tour guide, tutor, and RA. Junior: I am currently a Junior at SUNY Potsdam and have enjoyed my time here thus far. I personally have enjoyed the life-long friends I've made, the connections I've made with my professors/department, and with those in the local community (especially, at the local coffee shop - Jernabis!). SUNY Potsdam, like many colleges, is what you make it. If you put yourself out there, join activities you like/are passionate about, and apply yourself in your department, the chance of you enjoying your college experience increases. Potsdam has a variety of student clubs/organizations and sports teams to join to connect with peers outside of classes too. Academics at Potsdam vary in quality depending on the department you are in, so I highly recommend searching and reaching out to your department of choice before attending. Graduate Student: Columbia's campus is great! As a graduate student, I love seeing the level of diversity within the engineering department and the opportunity to get to learn about everyone's backgrounds! Freshman: I’m a dance major at NYU tisch and although this school is very expensive I’ve been loving the experience I’ve had so far. I can’t speak for other majors but being in the dance department it’s very easy to build community and make friends that will definitely last a life time. I will say one of the major flaws I have noticed with nyu (besides the tuition lol) is communication specifically within the financial department. As someone who genuinely cannot afford this school and is going to be in thousands of dollars in debt, I’ve been trying to reach out and appeal my financial aid in hopes to get more but they never answer any of my questions or respond to previous appeals I have sent. Also the campus is very spread out lol. Other than that, living here in NYC and going to my dream school has been nothing but surreal! Freshman: I love it here so far! I have made so many friends so far, I have not met one mean person yet. There are so many different orgs to try and be a part of, you’re never bored in that regard. The professors I’ve had so far have been super kind and helpful, especially with extensions regarding mental health, but I did hear that some professors have some…outdated values that have offended some students, but I’ve personally never experienced it. It’s a very LGBTQ+ friendly campus, as a queer person there are so many other queer students here and I feel very accepted and seen. The party scene is not that great, whenever parties happen they get shut down by campus security pretty quickly, before midnight a lot of the time, but some off campus parties are pretty good, you just gotta know the right people. Sophomore: I loved the scenery at Oswego. Being close to Lake Ontario, I was able to spend time with friends and even go alone to take a mental break and observe the water. Senior: I am currently in my fourth and final year at Roberts. In terms of academics, it is a small school, so you really get to know the professors. It is easy to meet with them one-on-one to help with any struggles. In terms of social life, I feel like there is always some event going on that students can get involved with. There are also a ton of groups that students can join in leadership roles to help put these events on. Sometimes these positions may come with a small scholarship! The people at Roberts are really the best part of the school. I've met some of my best friends here and have made hundreds of other connections with others across campus. In terms of faith, I can confidently say that I learned a lot more about Christ and have significantly built upon my faith since entering Roberts.
