Junior: I came into UCLA as a transfer student and immediately joined the transfer summer program. The support I received from the program was incredible. I was able to form a community, make new friends, and explore the seemingly endless opportunities UCLA has to offer. Within the first month, I had an opportunity to join a physics lab. This is something that I wanted to do since I began my college journey. To be able to have this opportunity at UCLA is something that I have only dreamt of until now. Sophomore: I love UMass! The campus is gorgeous and the school of business is excellent. There is nothing quite like the dining hall. There are lots of student resources for academics and academic achievement. Anything you could ask for, you can find on campus. However, the Amherst area off campus is also delightful. There are lots of local stores and resources like Target, Walmart, Staples, and Dunkin'. You can find things you need on campus at the school store. Or you can find lots of coffee on campus as there's a Starbucks, People's Organic Coffee, and Argo tea. All students are kind and welcoming. There's so many ways to get involved on campus with clubs, athletics, or greek life. The only thing I would advise about Varsity athletics is that the program is run poorly and the athletic directors show minimal care for corrupt activity of some of the coaches, especially the field hockey coach. Freshman: My experience at Virginia Tech has been outstanding! I finished high school one semester early and earned credit for one semester's worth of college through my local community college. My coursework has been tough but I have persevered with the help of my professors. In addition, the campus is beautiful and the students are friendly. I have enjoyed the campus gym, attended career fairs, played intramural sports, gone on a retreat out of state and even participated in a Business Club Pitch Contest that was way outside of my comfort zone. Failure is not an option- I will succeed! I am from Southeast Newport News, where I've seen too many people make decisions that negatively impact their lives. The housing crisis for upperclassmen needs to change. I would love for more on campus housing to be available for upperclassmen. Junior: All throughout high school my teachers would try to hammer this perception that in college, I would be truly independent and nothing more than a number in a classroom. This couldn't be further from the truth regarding CBU. The professors here generally care for their students and show teaching is their passion. Professors remind us on the regular that they're available during their office hours and are even willing to make themselves available for us whenever we had questions. Every Professor I've had thus far has prayed for us before we take an exam, this helped me feel less stressed. Campus life is fun. Dorm life is a great way to make connections. If you're an incoming freshman, I recommend you try and live in Smith/Simmons hall. Campus always has a lot of events going on all the time. Make sure you get involved! Sophomore: So far, I love it here! As a senior in high school, St. Norbert wasn't a college that was originally on my list since its in my hometown and I was worried about being so close to home, but I made an impulse decision to sign up for a tour and see what happens and I fell in love. Being on campus with a completely different mindset as a prospective student changed my perspective and once the tour was over I didn't want to even look anywhere else. As someone who lives on campus despite being from the area, I can confidently say that once the school year starts you're so busy with classes, new experiences, and new friends that it feels like an entirely different world. I love St. Norbert because of its smaller size. Junior: Bates is a quality institution with caring professors, a beautiful campus, and a collaborative student culture. Even within STEM majors, there's an attitude of students supporting one another through hard classes rather than trying to get ahead. The party scene slows down during the colder months, but it gets made up for during Short Term with some party or event to be found almost every day. It's easy to get close with professors to the point where you might find yourself invited to dinners in their homes! Classes, especially smaller ones where the content is heavily based on your professor's research, are consistently engaging. Overall I've really loved my time at Bates, although as a major in a smaller department (neuroscience) I've felt that students can be impacted negatively by deficits in resources. When small schools have small departments like this, losing just one or two professors can severely damage the major. However, I think it's a great choice as a liberal arts school.... Senior: James Madison University is a big school with a small school feel- wherever you are on campus there will be a new face but you'll probably see someone you know as well! The professors want to know you and help you accomplish your goals. The school is absolutely breathtaking and the people are super friendly. There are lots of different options to major in and the resources available at this school are phenomenal. This school does a wonderful job of preparing its students for post-grad life and has a great reputation for getting a job! The school spirit at JMU is really what drew me here in the first place. Current students and alumni are proud to be Dukes and they look out for each other when hiring. Freshman: I started attending Florida International University this summer and I absolutely love it. This is the only University that attracted me in Florida. The diversity in this school is truly incredible, there’s so many people from different backgrounds and it’s nice to get to know them. The people there also feel very welcoming and inclusive, and that’s what I really look for in a school. It lets make me gain more knowledge and become less ignorant of others. The professors I’ve had so far are incredible too, they are understanding and good at teaching. It feels like there is a strong support system and you can go to people when you feel troubled. Alum: UGA is definitely a large, State University which was a fit for me since I was unsure as to what career path I was initially interested in. So many choices! But it gets much smaller and intimate over time as you get through the core classes and begin to specialize. I joined a fraternity while I was there, but you certainly don't need to be a part of Greek life to find a multitude of social opportunities. It's very easy to make friends at UGA. The sports are amazing and the academics continue to strengthen as the years go by. There really aren't any obvious weaknesses to discuss. The only thing I will say is that the number of students is stressing the available infrastructure in terms of parking and housing. If UGA will focus on increasing the number of dorm rooms and parking spaces then it would help a lot. Senior: I transferred into Liberty University as a junior, I was excited to be on a campus that loved Jesus. I have been challenged by the coursework, professionally developed through leadership programs, and grown deeply in love with Jesus. As a behavioral sciences and religion major, the classes are practical and applicable to the field that I am going in. My professors have a wealth of knowledge in their areas and care deeply about their students. The classes are not insanely difficult, but the material is challenging and insightful. Alum: I am thankful for my undergraduate experience at Washington University in St. Louis. The college has great connections for post-grad opportunities in multiple fields - business, medicine, research, engineering. I was easily able to switch between the Arts & Sciences program and the Business School at the end of my sophomore year. There is a huge focus on medicine, so even for other career paths there are healthcare adjacent offerings (e.g. Healthcare Management, Bio Medical Engineering, Global Health, Psychology/Neuroscience/Philosophy). The brand name and resources do carry for other non-health related professions too. Alum: Rhode Island School of Design is a prestigious art school worldwide, and therefore it creates a community of cutting-edge student body and faculty. The friends and network I've met at RISD are life-long and will continue to be a source of inspiration and collaboration in the future. All the departments in the school are extremely challenging and require refined conceptual and critical thinking as well as technical skill.
