There are a lot of things that I like about Rockhurst, and one of them is the student to teacher ratio. Rockhurst has a 14:1 student ratio and it makes it really easy to get connected with your professors and makes the learning experiences better. Rockhurst also has great student resources to help everyone succeed in college. They have everything from student counselling to peer coaches and advisors to help you succeed in all of your classes. Rockhurst also police on campus and nearby to make sure you feel safe at all time. Another thing I like about the campus is how beautiful it is, with the cool buildings, clocktower, and flowers everywhere around campus. The only thing I would like to see change is more people coming here!
I am an online ABSN student. Each class meets every other week or so for about an hour on zoom, and most of the learning is independent (reading from canvas modules), so you have to be able to learn independently. If you are considering the online ABSN program, be careful with what you hear from the recruiter, because in my experience nearly half of her information is just completely wrong. I really enjoy the program overall, but be prepared to fight for your clinical placements. They say that they will help place you, but if left to their own devices they will place you 2 hours away from your home and/or won't give you a placement until halfway through the rotation. If you are considering this program, consider doing your research and referring your own preceptors, and make sure to check in regularly with placement to make sure everything is set before your rotation.
Rockhurst was amazing right off the bat! Being an incoming freshman, it was certainly a nerve racking feeling. However, the schools orientation threw all of those doubts out the window. We participated in a 3-4 day orientation that got us familiar with the school and all of its option. But the best part of orientation was the friendships that were made. At first it felt awkward but by the end I wanted to call them my family. I got exposed to my friend group on day one and couldn’t be happier. Student life is amazing too! With it being a smaller school, it is super easy to get connected with others and get involved. With the smaller class rations, you get to feel a connection with your teachers and classmates like nowhere else. The teachers want you to learn and are willing to help in areas you may be struggling. This was a much needed aspect during COVID this past year with all the chaos. RU did a great job of managing everything during the pandemic for things to run like butter
