    University of Hawaii at Manoa

    • 2,012 reviews
Freshman:I love the campus atmosphere here! The people are friendly and the weather is obviously beautiful! Only thing is the housing is worn down and old and the cost of living in Hawaii is extremely high. Other than that I love the social science department and the wide range of interesting classes that are included here. I know that viewpoints of the campus are conflicted. It just depends on your major and what you are looking for in a campus. UH is not a big Greek school, but you can definitely find entertainment in the city of Honolulu and events sponsored by the school or the few Greek fraternities that they do have.

    Chaminade University of Honolulu

College Junior:Chaminade University is a very nice school. It's not too big that you get swallowed up by the masses, but not too small that there's aren't still great people to meet. What I love about the school is the overwhelming Aloha spirit. There are so many different types of people represented here, that most people make an effort to be kind and respectful and downright nice! It's hard to find young people not absorbed in themselves or their phones, but here Chaminade is known to give back. Yes it sits on the bedrock of Marianist(Catholic) values, but even without the religious aspect, there is so much love to share and you can't help but not get inspired by it. I've met incredible professors who really work to help you succeed and do all they can to make your dreams become reality. It's paradise and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Sophomore:BYU-Hawaii provides a safe, wholesome environment for its students. Our administration strives to maintain a clean, spiritual atmosphere where students can study, work, and socialize. Here, I have been able to grow and mature as a person. I love being a student at BYU-Hawaii because I feel like I can gain my education free of the distractions of a raging party scene and other disruptions common to the college environment.
This does not, however, deny us the opportunity to have a fun college experience. Living so near the beach is a luxury, and our activities committee is constantly planning fun, wholesome events for us to enjoy.

University of Hawaii - West Oahu

Junior:At University of Hawaii-West Oahu, there's a lot of diversity and events on campus. There's a lot of people that get along and most of the professors are compassionate and caring. They want to see you pass and if there's any problems that you have, you can mostly guarantee that they'll understand. But, that doesn't stop them from being a professor. That means that you need to do your work and do the best that you can.

    Hawaii Pacific University

Junior:The close-knit English department is probably my favorite part about this college. The professors and faculty (especially the 5th floor librarians) are extremely helpful and genuinely interested in your well-being, interests, and success. The curriculum is challenging and thought-provoking--something I think current and future generations will depend on to help ask and answer questions about the coming cultural shifts. One suggestion for improvement would be on the process of advising. I personally did not know I had a recent change in advisers and would like to have been kept up-to-date on that.

    University of Hawaii at Hilo

    • Hilo, HI

College Sophomore:The classes offered are amazing! Especially the Hawaiian language classes and Ohana classes. They give amazing insight into ideas that have probably never crossed a typical American's mind before. It's not just those classes that do that however, but almost every class and professor challenges students to think outside of everything they've known.

Another thing that jumps out at you is how passionate the professors are about their subjects. I've spoken to multiple students about this and all agreed that even if they don't enjoy the subject, just the passion of their professors keeps them coming back.

Its easy to pass the classes as long as you take notes and do all the assignments. The professors are all fair graders.
