Penn State Reviews
Penn State is an amazing campus with a multitude of career paths to choose from. There are tons of possibilities that one can get involved in at Penn State through clubs, community involvement, or sports. As an engineer, I am very glad that I chose this particular school because our engineering department is one of the best in the United States, and the chances of finding a job upon graduation is quite high. There is one particular thing that I would like to see change in the future at Penn State and that particular change is with academic scholarships for students. Currently, Penn State only offers athletic scholarships at the main campus, and at branch campuses I was able to find out that they offer academic scholarships. There are particular scholarships offered through individual colleges at main, but for someone is graduates in the top percentage of their class there should be some sort of scholarship given. Overall, Penn State is a great school. We Are!
Yes, it is absolutely a drinking school. It can be hard to ignore some of the rampant student drinking issues, but it is a very large university and campus. There are hundreds of various campus groups and student organizations that you can join and find your own niche away from all of the crazy. If drinking and wild partying is your thing, I wish you luck not falling down a flight of stairs or dying during a hazing event, but rock on. The Eberly College of Earth & Mineral Sciences is an incredible institution, and some of Penn State's Academic programs and professors are, indeed, some of the best in the world. I've had a great 3 and a half years at Penn State and learned a lot - not only from my classes and internships, but also about working hard, putting your best into what you do, and always making time to volunteer. I've participated in the world's largest student-run philanthropy, THON, and held leadership roles in the same club for 3 of my 4 college years. I worked at an award-winning, student-run newspaper and 2 startup nonprofits. I'm not just leaving with a degree, but also with amazing friends and shared experiences, a work ethic I didn't have going into college, and great real-world experience at companies!
