I love nearly everything about this school! The sports are great, there are major entertainment events, art and religion are honored, there are over 1,000 student organizations, and I have had incredible professors consistently throughout my years (although peers in other majors did not always say this). In the area, there is hiking, skiing, several summer festivals, several thrift stores, and a high proportion of restaurants with different ethnic cuisines. Recommendation for change are prioritizing updates to dorm buildings and increasing accessibility to groceries downtown, as this is where a large number of students live (without their cars). It has many international students, but is otherwise limited in diversity. It mostly reflects the state/region, so I do not see this as something that necessarily needs to change.
I was admitted to Penn State, Main Campus (University Park) for the summer LEAP program. I have not started my fall semester yet, however, Penn State has truly welcomed me into a place of comfort, freedom, high academic honor, and most of all, fun. As the offspring of a Penn State alum, I feel so grateful to be able to walk the grounds that my own mother did in the 1980s. The students, not to mention the faculty, are all helpful; as someone who suffers from multiple learning disabilities (which can at times impede my growth in learning), I feel confident that the professors and all of the academic resources here will encourage my wants for success.
So far, I have not experienced any desire or crave for change. University Park offers a safe space for anyone of all walks of life to express their personal opinions, backgrounds, or ideas for change. There are numerous resources that students can go to in times of difficulty or challenge. If you love spirit, fun, and joy, then go to PSU!

Penn State also reminds me of home, because of the strong community feeling. People are excited to see similar faces, reach out, and smile! You're guaranteed to find a place to fit in. I've also had teachers who truly cared for me as a person. They cared about my mental health and the friends I interacted with to help guide me toward my many goals. This is my favorite part about Penn State, the family like community.
I believe that Penn State has the potential to build a strong investigative spirit amongst its students. I am very privileged to attend a school that is known for having many different speakers. Whether famous or people who preach out of their own will, my school is very open about free speech which I love. However, I think that Penn State should help guide its students to find their own interpretations of the information that they receive. I think it would be very interesting if a seminar was held around the multiple ways the students can take in and act on information.
