My overall experience is great! Oakland has a really nice campus and all of my teachers/classes so far have been good. It's a big change to move from high school senior to college freshman. The teachers at OU were super welcoming as a freshman and I was able to understand how different education there was. The University makes it very clear that there's lots of ways to get support for many different things. There is academic advising, tutoring, social clubs or groups, and also fun activities that pop up to encourage socializing. The buildings are also incredibly nice. The ones that I got to see so far were fantastic. They all had nice and spacious furniture, many floors, and things such as chain food stores, accessible printers, elevators, etc. I look forward to exploring different parts and meeting new teachers each passing year.
I am graduating from Oakland University this month, and it has been an amazing 4 years. Oakland is very organized, available, incorporative, and helpful. They will send emails regarding important updates so every student is in the know. Since I was attending Oakland during COVID, they handled the situation very well. The campus is very safe and is pretty walkable! The school could improve on its diversity and parking lot space, but other than that I really enjoyed studying here!
I absolutely love OU! It's a very welcoming and inviting place. It is pretty diverse; I think it has been growing more and more diverse every year since my freshman year. They have some of the best dorm rooms that a college could have (even the freshman dorms are super nice) and let me not get started on the apartments (beautiful!). This college is affordable (free housing if you live in Wayne County, no cost to park your car on campus, various scholarship opportunities and options, etc.), has a beautiful campus (very well-kept in all weather conditions), a wide array of dining options, and is not too far outside of downtown Detroit and other beautiful cities like Royal Oak, Birmingham, Ferndale, Farmington Hills, Northville, etc. In my experience, pretty much all of my teachers have been helpful and show that they care about the students. The curriculum is fitting for the college level. I am so grateful I chose OU. Possibly one of the best life decisions I could have ever made!
