I'm a first year student at Northwest Kansas Technical College. I'm here on a basketball scholarship and I've found the college to just be average. With the college moving into the Jay Hawk conference as a Division 1 NJCAA school the athletics have improved significantly with the addition of a female soccer and softball team. The academics are very good as the professors understand most of the students goals to prepare for a 4-year school. The local area is very friendly and welcoming. However I would like to see a drastic improvement int he dorms, student life, and party scene as most weekends are very boring with no activities, the dorms needing a major upgrade, and no party scene at all.

Northwest tech has one of the best hands on experience for all students. They walk through and teach you most things about your program. The staff there is very friendly and will always help you if you have questions. In the classroom it is also very fun but all of us student look foreword to getting out there and getting the hands on experience. They provide you with all of the tools and tips you need. We learn a lot but not everything because of the 2 year length program. Overall NWKTC is great technical college that I would tell anyone about if they are interested.
The school itself is awful. It seems like everyone wants to help you, but the hoops you have to jump through for everything seems a bit ridiculous. A big thing is that they do not disburse funds until 30 days AFTER the semester has already started. The financial aid office is a total joke. The only one who has a clue is the office manger Penny, who flat out said that her underling was "new and didn't know what she was doing" and yet this was the person EVERYONE said to talk to for questions. In a program where extra expenses start from day 1 this was huge issue. I was told that they got a new cafeteria provider so the lunches were supposed to be better, if this was better then I hate to think of what it was. The only eatable item were the chicken nuggets. The sports teams are fine, although they only care about the boys soccer teams, which they fly in people from the world to play, and the girls team gets close to nothing. They promise so much for a scholarship for playing and the coaches don't care at all about you. The only redeeming feature of this school are the teachers. These people are 100% under paid and under appreciated by everyone. If you want a good education (associates degree), for a hefty price and several headaches I'd say sure sign up. Otherwise I'd say save yourself the trouble and go get your bachelors at a cheaper school
