My son went to MSSU his Jr & Sr years on a baseball scholarship. He didn't know anyone else attending, but being a part of a sports team, they hooked him up with a roommate for an off-campus apartment where other players lived. He loved everything about his experience there - we enjoyed the campus and town when we went to watch baseball games. Joplin is a small town and the campus is intimate. You have a chance to really know your professors and meet many students. The tuition has to be the most reasonable in the state, and having both a baseball and academic scholarship helped as well. He got his degree in secondary education and went on to get his Masters' Degree online from here as well. His bonus was meeting the girl of his dreams (on the softball team!) and they will be getting married this Fall!
Missouri Southern does the best for its students and their future in hopes of gaining a higher graduation rate among students. It is a wonderful commuter campus and has affordable tradition and hybrid classes. Student success is highly personal and prioritized here, with the college offering services that will keep students from going hungry or facing adverse mental stress. This campus is truly about the students and I'm proud to be a lion. GO LIONS!
I took 2 summer classes online, Music and Art Appreciation. The Music Appreciation class was extremely hard and more in depth than what I thought it should be. It seemed to be more of a class for a music major, not just a core class. It was difficult taking online, because of the technicality of going back and forth listening to the music and answering the questions. The Art Appreciation class was more of an intro to Art class which I enjoyed, although I am not an art major. I thought it gave a good overview of different methods of art and the interpretation, history and appreciation of various artwork. My communication with the teachers seemed a little weak. This was my first time to take an online class at MSSU, so some of it may have been me having higher expectations. In the end I received my credits, but would not recommend especially the Music Appreciation online.
