Maharishi International University Reviews
The entire student body and all faculty meditate twice a day and this creates a uniquely warm and peaceful atmosphere on campus. It's something intangible but very real, everyone comments on it. My parents noticed it when they were here. The cafeteria is organic, mom-GMO. Everything is geared toward healthy lifestyle and making the most of our mental and physical potential. MUM is not typical, it's far superior! The dorms are all single rooms, not shared, so there's privacy. (Uncommon) Faculty aren't paid much: they're here because they believe in MUM's mission of developing the whole person, through meditation (TM) and wholesome routine. I've loved my years here and feel uniquely qualified from this school to go out and succeed in any environment, because I'm using more of my mental and physical potential!
If you're looking for the average college lifestyle move along. If you want a quiet place to study and grow then this place is perfect. Unfortunately, the experience can be mired by the old way of thinking of the trustees and decision-makers. Even as a Student Government member it is hard to get anything changes on campus even when the president of the university is on our side. Another major issue with the school is the communication between the departments and even within the department itself. The people who come on campus to mediate in the domes are rude, pretentious, and drive recklessly. The students are mostly treated like cash cows and the faculty and staff are underpaid. The only reason they were given a raise in the past year and a half is because of a citation of the accreditation board from the previous inspection. (The inspector is coming in 2020). The majors that are offered are great despite the environment and the teachers are very knowledgeable in their fields.
Having a university that sincerely puts the development of their students in an individual sense is outstanding and exceptional. I was able to take advantage of how well facilitated this is and it paid off many times over what I paid for my attendance here. I would like to see the development of the Sustainable Living department, the school become more self-sufficient in a general sense, and a more clear adherence to academic standards in order for this school to really reach it's potential.
