To start, Magdalen is an incredible college offering young Catholics the chance to study great authors from Aristotle to Flannery O'Connorunder the guidance of great professors such as Dr. Brian FitzGerald and Dr. Anthony Esolen, on a beautiful campus overlooking the great New Hampshire Mountains, surrounded caring and brilliant students who share an appreciation for truth. For some being on top of a mountain away from most of society's amusements would seem ridiculous, but I have found it to be entirely refreshing. Studying the writings of the world's greatest minds away from the noise has been an eye-opening experience that has aided me in looking at the world in a new light. The education, people, and environment are all to Magdalen's credit.
Of course, like all things in life, Magdalen is not perfect. At times I wish it was a little more organized. I believe if they were more put together in places like the admissions office, we'd have more students and fewer worries.

Magdalen College...how can I put into words the level of community, academics, and respect of human dignity that resides in such a school. Never before, and quite possibly never again outside of the family life, have I encountered such a profound and vigorous search of the good, the true, and the beautiful. Attending Magdalen College was a decision that I never once doubted, and will always be so glad that I made. The professors there are incredibly devoted to passing their knowledge and wisdom to the students. It has been said that education is not the memorization of facts, but is the widening of the mind, and this is a statement that has been not spoken but acted throughout the many years that this institution has opened her doors to young men and women seeking to answer the perennial questions of life. The college's motto is Duc In Altum, which is Latin for "Set out into the deep"- basically to take what you know, and set out into the uncharted. Wisdom is practicing knowledge.
I went to Magdalen quite a few years ago. Made friendships that lasted for a lifetime, and even though its not a very career-oriented school I can say that I and almost everyone of my classmates did very well after graduation. I wasn't always happy with the quality of the instruction I received but as the years have gone by I've realized how useless the education most people- including people at Ivy League schools- get and I've been very grateful for the great books education I received. I visited a few years ago and I'm really impressed by the upward trajectory the school seems to be on- a lot of the kids there seemed way smarter/wealthier than my classmates and I were, but it still felt like home.
