I liked Lee University for the community that was created in the classroom. The professors are very hands on and intentional. While the city of Cleveland has very few opportunities for student entertainment, there are always coffee shops throughout the town. Lee University provides various clubs and community involvement, but did a poor job of introducing the clubs, specifically the newer ones. The student-run newspaper, the Lee Clarion introduced most of the new clubs, and provided their platform for more student awareness. I hope Lee changes their disposition to be a more inclusive and diverse campus.
Lee is a university that I think is a good place to start off if you're a freshman or sophomore. Everyone's really friendly overall, ResLife is very engaged with residents, and there are different ways to connect. Despite it being the "flagship" school for Church of God, I believe it has various ways it could improve. Being a minority student, it was very surprising to know that in 2019 it was recorded that 21% of campus was made up of minority students. I've been part of Church of God for the past 16 years which it made it more surprising. I also think some of the departments aren't funded well. I'm a science major in a specialty that's new. The program itself is basically a biology learning path with extra specialty classes you can take as a junior or senior. There are only 3 natural science advisors too. I think the attention mostly goes towards the nursing, music, and theology department for obvious reasons. So, like any university, there are pros and cons to coming to Lee.
The professors of Lee University are genuine and intentional people, who are willing to pour life into their students. Their doors are always open for students to come in to discuss life, homework, etc. They strive to help their students learn and succeed, as well as making sure to prepare them for life after college. When you are researching colleges, research what you want your learning experience to be like---not simply "Is that campus pretty," "Is there a party scene," etc. Make sure to find a university where the people will invest in you. College is far from easy, but the Lee University professors are amazing and make the journey less daunting.
