Review J.F. Drake State Technical College
I am 40 years old first time attending school in 24 years. From the first moment of enrollment I felt welcome. Every question I asked was not a stupid question. I was given a list of every piece of paper work I was going to need. I received continuously from how to get my GED transcript to how to prepare for a test. Financial aid was there every step of the way. So far I couldn't ask for a better group of people surrounding me.
While attending J. F. Drake State Community and Technical College I found out through my American History class that I have the same last name as Dred Scott the Afferican American Slave that bought his freedom durring the 1800 and loss it to gain it back again. He lived and workd on what is know none as Oakwood University under the dirction of Dr. and Ms. Leslie and Prudence Pollard. Yet for me the climax of my statement is that I also found out through my American History class at my college that I have the same last name as the judge on the Dred Scott cas Stanford, and a large number of my family graduted from college Oakwood University the same place that some of the Mr. Dred Scotts family are resting in death. Not only that according to Stanford University history department both the Scott's and the Stanford's that served on this cass were related. Pluss both the Scott and my family seem to have relations that may have lived in each ot the states that Mr. Scott lived in. This information cause me to do my class report on the Dred Scott cass, and is how I foiund out about this historic information. Thanks to my college history teacher Ms. Brown support, I found my schools history department to be very supportive in my undertaking of this information to use as a report for my class history project. My goal is to one day find out if Mr. Dred Scott is realy related to my family on my father's side. If I had not had the oppertunity to return back to school as a older student in need of a carreer change, I may not have had the courage to take on such a project, I thank God for the oppertunity to attend J. F. Drake State Communty College and to have had the assistance need to uncover whtat may be my family history. What a blessing!
