Jacksonville State University Reviews
Rating 3.8 out of 5 1,063 reviews
Jacksonville State University was my backup school because I knew I was going to attend Auburn University. However, after visiting Auburn I did not feel any connection to it, and plus the campus was massive! Nevertheless, once my orientation singing and dancing show started at Jacksonville State, I knew I was where I belonged. With Jacksonville I feel more seen and included, not only in my classes and with my professors but also with my peers. Jacksonville State is not a massive college so it is not hard to get lost on campus! Compared to Auburn where I got lost during the tour. On another note, the classroom sizes are also smaller and I believe that this allows for a better connection between the faculty and students. Furthermore, anytime I needed to contact a professor about an assignment or class they were able to respond quickly. Overall, my experience at JSU has been more than I had hoped for and I have grown as a friend, leader, and student. Moreover, I know JSU is my home!
I graduated back in December 2021, and JSU is one of those universities that goes under the radar and doesn't really get the credit they truly deserve. The professors and the community are true salt of the earth types that you want supporting you and your journey through college. Food here is great both on campus and in town, especially if you like wings! Those who want to save a bit more money can attend one of the Gadsden State CC campuses in Anniston and Gadsden, less than 30 minutes in either direction from JSU. Athletics currently is transitioning to D-1A/FBS, and the football stadium is being renovated as a combo field house/residence hall. The issue with JSU is its lack of adequate parking and housing, which is the primary reason the acceptance rate is so low for an affordable public institution.
If you're a fan of southern hospitality and brotherhood, it doesn't get more wholesome than JSU. There is a reason people call Jacksonville "home", but it's up to you to find out.

Jacksonville State University has a representation for being the friendliest campus in the South, and I can say it really is such a great place to go. Out of high school I was beyond nervous of how things were going to go since not many people from my high school went to JSU. On the day that I went for orientation, I had a GO Leader that was so helpful and helped me out throughout the entire process. My major was Political Science with a minor in Spanish. I had the best experience with all my professors and my advisor still helps me out till this day. I can't talk about all the majors but political science really does have an amazing set of professors that are willing to work with you as long as you show effort. Good luck to everyone in their college experience!
