With the vet tech program we are able to gain hands on experiences on a daily basis as there are animals there at the school. The teachers usually give time in class to complete homework and projects and are always willing to help and answer any questions. Along with there being animals there at the school, we are all assigned a certain day of the week to complete kennel duties as a team, this includes caring for the animals, cleaning cages, giving medicine if needed, and interacting with them. There is a 2 month externship that is completed after all the necessary courses are complete.
As the Vet Tech Institute does have a mandatory internship at the end of the program, it becomes very apparent to students whether they are going to love the profession or not. It is finally the taste of hands on work that they need aside from the efforts put forth by the school. As the school taught us the very basics up into the extent of surgery, the real world is a lot more in depth. I would have to say, requiring short internships during the program after certain passing points would be a better idea.

My time spent with IBC has been quite the experience so far. I have come to meet many new people, and find ever more admiration towards my field. It's a great place to come and get a degree, but you have to be dedicated. The attendance policy can be rather strict, and with accelerated courses you don't have time to be missing classes. If you can make it in on time everyday, and keep up with the pace, I highly recommend it.
