Illinois State University Reviews

At ISU you get a small town vibe, which I personally love about the campus and the town itself. The campus grounds are pretty, especially in the heart of campus in the arboretum. Professors here are very friendly and willing to help in anyway they can. There are numerous choices of student organizations in various subjects, from the environment, to sports, to Greek societies, religious, and even political, if you enjoy that, and many more! I would say that the food is better at Tri towers(one of the dorms), mostly because the athletes live there. But if you prefer space, and wish to live in dorms, Watterson is the place for you. They’re dorms are bigger than the other two, Tri and Hewett-Manchester. Plus in the winter, it’s connected to a cafeteria, so you don’t have to go outside in the snow to get food. However, if you live out of state, it’s better to live in Hewett-Manchester or Tri because they don’t close during breaks.
Illinois State University is one of the best places to grow not only as a student but as a person as a whole! I expanded my cultural horizons, met people from all walks of life, and really submersed myself into my academics and future! It has the perfect balance of providing both academic-focus and extracurricular activities for every students. There are plenty of ways to get involved on campus ranging from joining a campus club or getting involved in Greek life, which I did. The Greek system gave me the tools that I needed to move forward in my future career path. It also gave me life long friendships that will always remain special to me. The campus is just big enough to give you that "away" feel , but has that tight-knit small school feeling. The professors go out of their way to accommodate the needs of their students whether it is office hours, timely email responses or an after lecture discussion, they are here to make the academic experience a positive one.
As an incoming freshman, I am going to be finishing up my first semester real soon and I wanted to share my overall experience so far. This school is great and has shown me new experiences. The school host a welcome week, which is an amazing way to meet new people and reach out to those of your major. Even if you have yet to decide on your major, Illinois State is very open to making sure you are on the correct path and has people you can easily reach out to. They have events all throughout the semester to make sure kids are still involved and engaged with the campus. Definitely excited to see what next semester has to offer and what I will learn during that time!
