Grand Valley State University Reviews
Proud to be a Laker! I loved my four years at the "college in the cornfield" which continues to grow in both the primary Allendale and downtown Grand Rapids campuses. The primary campus is so lovely that we returned to have our wedding in the arboretum and reception at the Alumni House. The sprawling layout leads to lots of walking, biking, or skating but also affords a sense of community as students tend to live and study with those seeking similar majors. I was a member of the Honors College which afforded the opportunity to get to know our professors well since some of our classes spanned multiple sememsters. A very strong athletic department means great games to attend and an enormous FieldHouse to allow year-round indoor participation in every sport imaginable even in the midst of a Michigan winter.
Currently, I am a freshman at Grand Valley State University. For me, the idea of moving three hours away from home terrified me. I knew absolutely no one and I have never been away from home. The day my parents dropped me off at my dorm by myself was the scariest feeling of my life. For the first couple of days, I was so upset that I couldn't leave my room. Once transitions started, I finally grew out of my depression and I began to talk to people that were going through the same pain as me. I made a new friend that now I am proud to call my best friend. Together, we discovered so many clubs and fun activities available on campus. We also discovered the freshman fifteen as a result of the Kleiner building and Fresh Foods. I am very greatful that my parents supported me going away to Grand Valley. I am so proud to be a Laker!
Grand Valley State University is an excellent school and by far one of the best decisions i have ever made. I get so excited talking about Grand Valley whenever someone asks about it. There are so many opportunities for students to get involved, like Greek Life, intramural sport teams, and clubs for any and all majors! The campus takes 10 to 15 minutes to walk across so everything is in a very convenient location. Also Grand Valley prides itself on being named one of the country's most environmentally responsible colleges by The Princeton Review. Everyone i have talked to that has went to Grand Valley says it is one of the best universities in the state of Michigan. I am proud to be a student at Grand Valley and I cannot wait for what the future brings me because of my decision of going to Grand Valley State University.
