Flagler College is a great school in many ways. It’s in the heart of one of the oldest cities in the nation, so for any history-related degrees it’s a perfect place for internships. The campus is historic itself. The class size is smaller, so you get an intimate experience that is extremely different than a large university. And you’ll likely have your professors multiple times, so it helps you succeed. However, Flagler has a lot to progress on and lacks diversity. There is a significant LGBTQIA2S community and international students but that’s it. And its administration is very much an old boy’s club. Their board has no term limits, which bars change at times. However, my experiences and classes offered were valuable to me and I truly enjoyed going there! I made life-long friends as well
The Professors were all amazing, especially in the Philosophy and Religion Departments. The only downfall of the school was its staff turnover; it made it difficult to keep track of who to contact for financial advisory and other administrative tasks. As long as you keep track of your advisors, your experience at Flagler will be great!
Flagler College offers the finest historically-connected college experience in Florida. Allowing freshman girls to live in the former Ponce de Leon hotel, and everyone access to the gilded dining hall adorned with murals and Tiffany-glass windows, it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As an English major, I was able to connect with professors specializing in virtually every type of literature, a few of which were also connected to the Creative Writing minor department as well. Classes were small and tailored to the unique needs of every student, with each course completely capturing the essence of each subject. However, though offering selective resume-building and career-prep services during a four-year undergraduate program here, career support services have been limited post-graduation. Though a student is sure to build enlightening connections with professors and peers alike, actual opportunities for networking are lacking compared to the larger Florida universities.
