How personal is a Ferris education? All courses are taught by faculty - we have no graduate assistants in the classroom. With 85% of our classes having fewer than 25 students, faculty know your name and what your goals are. The personal connections you build with them will help enhance your success because faculty provide recommendations to assist in securing jobs or entrance into graduate school. I can not say enough great things about Ferris State University. First, the location is beautiful and the small town of Big Rapids was welcoming. The college is central to the area. It's easy enough to navigate and there is always someone around to give you directions or even recommendations to wherever you are headed next. And the school itself gives you professors that are fantastic. Most of the professors I encountered were kind and generous. So many are approachable and easy to talk with. One time in particular, I really struggled with an accounting class. It was difficult for me to understand the concepts that were discussed in the online setting, but by being able to go to the professor's in-office hours was detrimental to my passing grade. The professor only wanted to see my success and never made me feel ridiculous. And generally, that was what attending Ferris felt like-like each person was there for you to achieve your dream and give you a great education to boot!
I learned a decent amount in my classes & feel prepared for the workforce. Decent value, cheap if you get a scholarship, professors range from great to terrible, especially for science classes. In the CIS program some professors truly care and are amazing, while some are phoning it in waiting to retire or die of old age. Not many parties, dorms are old and rooms are NEVER cleaned by the school, same with the apartments except for the lobby. I scraped ten years worth of dust off the AC vents and the fan in the bathroom. Black mold, not even once! The dishwasher broke and leaked, same with kitchen sink, toilet & much more. Took hours for someone to show up as I dumped out a gallon of water every ten minutes from the toilet leak. Not much to do in town unless you like drugs and alcohol. Lots of campus events, only got food poising from the schools food twice! FOOTBALL? FOOTBALL! It’s about the only thing they put money into besides a few new buildings, everything else is from the 1960s.
Ferris State University is outstanding! My high school experience was online, so I didn't have much social interaction. I was incredibly nervous about attending and moving away from home. However, Ferris State made me feel welcome. I enjoyed the various activities and events that were held!
When I had an issue with my roommate and wanted to move out, Ferris' employees helped me get a new room set up and answered all of my questions.
