Eastern Illinois University Reviews
Eastern Illinois University is a great institution, particularly in the fields of Education and Journalism. The classes are small, which fosters a close relationship with professors, who truly care about their students. Students and staff are also incredibly friendly and always willing to help; they really make you feel at home. The only con would be the location, especially for those who prefer living closer to a large urban area. Besides college parties and local bars, there isn't much to do around town. However, the area is very safe and the Jimmy John's restaurant was founded here by an EIU alumnus. For those die-hard football fans, the football team is not actually good, although Tony Romo and Jimmy G both went to EIU. I'm only giving it 4 stars due to its location, but you won't regret it if you choose to become a Panther!
I enjoy the atmosphere and the students. My only problem is, many of the professors don't care about the well being of their students. They are just working because of tenure or working for a pay check. Of the 8 professors I have had so far at EIU, only 2 of them seemed to care about their students and their multiplicities. The regular counselors before the counselors in your major are seemingly clueless on what classes you should take for your major and sometimes harm more than help. Several of the websites, apps, and course lists are severely outdated. But, if you want a good atmosphere and small campus, EIU is for you!
Eastern Illinois University provides a great experience for students wanting a safe community, a great education, and small class sizes. Instructors are friendly and helpful!
