The school is starting to spend a lot of money on the campus, building a new quad area, as well as a new Student Services building and cafeteria with a full commercial kitchen for hands on oppurtunities in the culinary arts programs. Most of the instructors are very pleasant and deicated to student success; however there are a few bad apples that simply spew information every lecture then issue an exam without any conversational learning. The school has more resources than a student could ever need! DVC offers free tutoring to any student in most subjects, free sessions with counselors who are usually helpful, and many other resources for both education and self-growth. Overall, DVC is a great school to get a great education at a discounted cost whether you are transferring or going back to school to get a certificate.
Review Your College
Diablo Valley College is seriously a great community college. What makes it unique is it's outstanding music program. You don't hear of many community colleges having an excellent music program, all around. DVC is known for their Music Production or Music Tech program, but that isn't the only one. The theory classes, the Jazz Program, etc. are equally outstanding. The music teachers at DVC are very passionate and very qualified! I feel like DVC prepared me very well for my transfer to SSU. The theory offered at DVC is very comprehensive and make the switch easy. For me, I basically had to choose between Solano Community College and DVC, and DVC by far is a much better school. One of my favorite experiences was going on a trip to see the San Francisco Opera with my theory class. What community college does that?! I constantly recommend this school to people who ask for a great community college. I would go to DVC again if I had to do it all over again. It also has a beautiful and peaceful campus!
My teachers were amazing! Approachable and warm. I asked questions after class, and was never made to feel rushed or insignificant. I met with a counselor, and received direction with my coursework goals. I also took a counseling class a few months before school started, and that gave me priority registration. This meant that I was able to get all of my desired classes. I wish there were more clubs and student activities on campus, and the parking can sometimes be rough. Other than that, I've had a great first semester at DVC.
