Going back to college in the middle of a pandemic I thought would be the most challenging part, but luckily I am feel so grateful with the professors and tutors I had in my fall semester. The advisors and financial aid people at Malcom X provided so much knowledge, care and understanding with how to go about enrollment, financials, and what classes to take. I highly recommend Malcom X for everything that I was able to accomplish this semester and I even made the Deans List during a pandemic at 35 years old. I have never felt more accomplished and like I can do something because of the way I was able to obtain the education within City Colleges. Thankyou!
Malcolm X has been very big on supporting their students in all ways. There is much support all around from mental health, course work, tutors, office hours, etc. They really care about students excelling and doing nothing more than the absolute best. A space is created were students feel comfortable enough to seek out help, without feeling ashamed or nervous. They want to help you achieve your career goals but you have to stay consistent and know what you want in order to get the help you need. There is academic advising to help you choose the right courses that counts towards getting your associate degree- and they will be honest and straightforward. The work with their students to map out each person's journey. For those who are planning on transferring over to a 4 year, they hold classes at the beginning of the semester and anyone can be a part of those calls. It is never to early to get started on your transition to a 4-year.
I absolutely love City Colleges of Chicago Malcolm X! A lot of people have this stigma of community college because it's considered "not real" college but I am here to prove people wrong. I completed a Phlebotomy program and I am currently in a Medical Assistant program, both programs are well organized, well structured and are ready to prepare you for the real world of going into the medical field. I am definitely grateful that I went to a community college verses a University because I am saving myself from higher debt than most people at my age. The only reason why I gave the school 4 out of 5 stars is that the school can do better at taking care of students when it comes to advising and financial aid needs but overall I love my college and I believe its a real college no matter what people say.
