Cerritos College was a fun experience overall. Coming out of high school I was still timid and struggle with school work and social interaction. Going to a community college before transferring to a 4 year university really helped me break out of my shell and discover new things. I learned that every person's future lies within their own hands and at the same time there are hundreds of people that will help you through your journey, but YOU must go and look for them. They will never come to you. If I could do it again, I certainly would!
I have grown to love this campus, teachers, and staff members. Great programs, inspiring staff members, and student activities are factors that make Cerritos College unique. As an international student, the best thing that I liked in this school was the English program. It was the best English program that I've ever studied in my life; my English improved a lot since I've enrolled to Cerritos. Cerritos offered a lot of majors that other colleges might not have such as human resource management which guided me to Cerritos. Cerritos also offered great counselors who had numerous experiments on career orientation; as a result, I could figure out the right major for myself, industrial psychology. Without English skills, I won't have any chance to pursue my education in the U.S. I had opportunities to interact with inspiring people who gave me motivations to work hard and to succeed. Besides studying, I also had opportunities to get involved with various activities in and out the campus. For example, I joined various clubs in school and had a chance to gain my personal skills; I volunteered for different departments on the campus; I went to field trips in different classes. With supports from instructors and staffs member, after my first academic semester in Cerritos, I have achieved many things, which I not expected to, such as high GPA(3.79/4.0), second prize in a writing contest, appreciation certificates from activities in the campus. All in all, I wish that I could have known Cerritos College earlier; it is a great college to start for any student who wants to succeed, especially for an international student like myself.
Fortunately, Cerritos college is equipped with tons of resources that support the varying majors of students. Communications is my choice of major and I am set on successfully acquiring all that is to be offered from Cerritos college. I continuously seek resources and services related to my major, and I am always satisfied to have gathered much support and information. Simply walking in the Social Science building, one sees many posters and flyers that promote the opportunities for Communication/speech majors looking to establish and explore new sources and connections. From workshops to speeches and debates I have come across many new, interesting and exciting findings that have proved me closer to my dream of becoming a successful college student.
