Love the diversity, love the variety of classes in race and ethnicity classes, specifically. Extremely disappointed in the art deparment. Being an animation major, the program is extremely lacking. Technology is old and unreliable, plus half of the professors don't even know what they're doing. We just had an opportunity to hire an amazing professor full time/tenure-track, and we all filled out surveys for all four applicants. One applicant had the absolute majority of students' votes, with one of the heads of the deparment in agreement, and yet the dean hired someone with no experience, who just graduated last year! Not to mention the other head professor is totally unexperienced and fails to meet the needs of the students in each class she teaches. With only one GOOD professor left, the program has any chance to improve.
I came to csula my freshman year, straight from high school. I was disappointed starting because csula was not my first choice. Slowly, I realized it was not a bad choice at all. I joined a sorority my first year. I learned that there are ways to get involved on campus. The teachers are usually pretty fair, I have not came across anyone unreasonably mean. Most teachers also teach well, some are better than others. On campus, there are 6 places to get meals, one which sells alcohol, and food trucks are here daily, so there is much diversity. Csula parties are usually small and packed. I am not caught up with sports, but I really wish there was a football team! I think that would bring a lot of revenue and school spirit. I formed my first year, and the dorms are not bad. In a house of 8 girls, there are 4 rooms and 2 bathrooms, which are furnished. Dorming and tuition is pricy, but compared to other schools, very cheap!
The teachers for Electrical Engineering related topics really know their material and present it well. Most are willing to explain it as much as necessary. However, social justice is slowly creeping into this campus. There are 3 "Diversity" class requirements intended to indoctrinate students into becoming advocates in the name of feminism, Black Lives Matter, and cultural Marxists. Other Diversity classes question the scientific differences on gender and seem to normalize transgender/multi-gender pseudoscience. This is the downside to going to this university: needing to take unrelated courses to my discipline and making me waste an additional quarter and $4,000.
