Baker College Online Reviews

I had a good experience with Baker College Online when I came back to finish for 1 semester, but with Baker overall, it wasn't good. While attending in person, my degree program got cancelled 3 times on me while attending, which removed many classes I had already taken, passed and paid for only to add in more classes that I needed to take in their place. This became extremely frustrating and overwhelming. I tried to transfer schools because of it but the credits wouldn't transfer and I would've had to start over wherever I went - again more money, time and effort on my part. It should be illegal to do that to students because there's no way we can fight back, it just is what it is and you're stuck dealing with the consequences. I think they should refund some of your money if they do that! Why should the students have to pay more, take more classes and be in school longer when the school does that to them? It added about 2.5 years to my total time in getting a bachelors degree.
At Baker, self-management is vital. Web navigation seems to be organized by the teachers, so some classes may have navigation that makes sense, some may not. Baker requires APA citations for references, but some teachers may add their own preferences to APA’s rules. Be forewarned. Their credit hour breakdown seems to be 6 study hours per night. An A grade may require lots of “Baker time” each day. Homework may conflict with family/social/work life. You can read almost a whole textbook per class. Classes will assign books or an online “library”. Sometimes they may specify chapters per week, sometimes they won’t say what to read (so you may encounter a question or assignment that forces you to rush to the course “library” to find relevant sources). Some classes will require group projects. They won’t demand equal performance among members. Baker provides conference call technology with remote sharing (everybody can see & anybody can click/type), but no training. They’re moderators.
I graduated 8 years ago with a Bachelor of Computer Science. The classes were a little too easy and I wish they would have challenged me more. That being said, I have been working since graduation at a Fortune 500 company as a Software Engineer making great money. My work-life balance is amazing and I love my job. I would not be here today without my degree from Baker College Online. I wish I could have attended in person, but I started while working in Alaska on the Pipeline. Then I continued taking classes online while working in the UK as a defense contractor for the Air Force. I was hired during my Senior year by my current company which gave me 12 months to finish my degree. One of the best decisions I ever made was continuing my education and graduating when I was 40. It may not be for everyone, but it worked for me.
