Augstana's athletic program is great! The school really works hard to emphasize the importance of being physically active. A graduation requirement from what I've heard is that you need two sports credits by the end of your four years. This could include varsity sports, intramural, club teams, etc. Because a large portion of the student body is involved in sports of some kind, the athletic facilities are easily available for varsity athletes as well as the average student. Specific sports teams get more fans than others, but that really has the most to do with how well the team has done in the most recent competitions. I think the best thing about the athletic department is how helpful the trainers are. I recently visited the physical trainer for the track and field team and he was able to pay attention to my potential injury within a few minutes I got there. Even though he had appointments, I didn't need one because he was on top of everything he had to do. I really appreciated it. It was a different level of attention than what I've experienced in high school.
