In my personal educational experience, and I’m sure many can relate to this, I was always the black sheep amongst the white. Going as far back as elementary school, I experienced racism and discrimination. I understood this concept at an early age because of my experience in a predominantly white elementary school.

I Found My Niche at Prairie View A&M University

Since I learned what an HBCU was, I knew I wanted to attend. Honestly, it has been the best experience of my life. I have learned more about my culture and have experienced a family environment from my teachers, mentors, and peers. ⁠⁠

My journey at Virginia State University was nothing like I expected yet has been everything I needed. From the late-night study sessions to the early morning talks, the gym jams and the visits to the Congressional Black Caucus, the Homecomings to Spring flings, and just beautiful days on the yard, I have loved it all.

My decision to attend Hampton was influenced by an HBCU college fair I attended during my senior year of high school and the rest is history. After getting accepted to Hampton, I attended Hampton’s Summer Bridge Program, which helped me acclimate into my freshman year of college. During this program, I made many friends and fell in love with Hampton even more.⁠⁠
