How to Submit Your SAT Scores to Colleges
Part of the application process includes submitting your SAT scores to the colleges on your list.
It’s yet another item to check off your to-do list but the good news is that you can choose the schools you want to receive your SAT test scores before or after you take the test.
So don’t freak if you forgot to do it ahead of time.
Just know that if you wait too long, it could cost you more money.
Also know that most colleges require official score reports directly from the College Board—not copies, scans, images or any other format. So you’ll need to go straight to the source.
To get your official scores sent to your prospective colleges, here are the steps you need to take:
How to Submit Your SAT Scores Before You Take the Test
You can send four free score reports to colleges every time you register for the SAT and doing so is the fastest way to send scores to colleges and scholarship programs.
Plus, it’s free until 11:59 p.m. EST, nine days after the test.
If you’re eligible for an SAT fee waiver, you still send them for free and you can also send as many as you want.
Change your mind about the colleges you want to see your score?
You can use Score Choice to change score recipients. You also have until 11:59 p.m. EST, nine days after test day.
If you opted not to automatically have them sent by College Board before you took the test, here are the steps you need to take to submit your SAT test scores after the fact.
How to Submit Your SAT Scores After You Take the Test
If it’s less than nine days since you took the test, your first four reports are still free. See the instructions above.
If it’s been longer than nine days, you’ll have to pay a fee.
As of March 2021, it costs $12 per report. If you’re eligible for a fee waiver, you’re still able to send them for free.
Here are your three options for sending your score reports:
- Online: Sign in to your College Board account. Follow the prompts.
- By mail: Download, print and mail the Additional Score Report Order Form.
- By phone: Call 866-756-7346 (toll free) or 212-713-7789 (international).
Note: You can’t cancel school report orders. Make sure you’re sending your scores to the correct colleges and universities.
How to Submit You SAT Scores through the Coalition Application
You can now send SAT scores at the same time you’re sending college applications.
It’s easy peasy.
Just log in to your Coalition account, link it to your College Board account and then send the scores to schools on your list.

What Is Direct Admissions?
Direct admissions is all about colleges coming to students instead of the other way around. If a college knows they would welcome a student like you based on your grades and other credentials, you shouldn’t have to bend over backwards to get in.
