I Found My Niche at University of Massachusetts Amherst
Student Name: Isis Obolensky
Hi everyone! My name is Isis (Icy) Obolensky. I’m a sophomore here at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I’m majoring in Communications and a member of the Isenberg Women In Business club with the intent to enter the Social Media industry or Film Marketing.
I’ve moved around my whole life so I’ve had some experiences in both small and big schools. After graduating High School in a very small town in Massachusetts, I knew I wanted to go to a big University. It also helped that most of my family either went to UMass Amherst or one of the five colleges.
The Five College Interchange allows students to take classes at the five corresponding colleges; UMass Amherst, Hampshire College, Amherst College, Mount Holyoke College and Smith College. So if the College you attend within the five colleges doesn’t have the class you want, you are free to check with other colleges and take them there for no extra charge. UMass Amherst is a great community, thankfully I haven’t had any negative interactions and people go by the golden rule, treat others the way you want to be treated. As an African American, I can say the school is pretty diverse. Since it’s a big school, you won’t encounter everyone but at UMass Amherst students do tend to stick with people similar to them so you just need to know where to look.
I first decided on Umass Amherst because of their health program and started attending the university as part of their Exploratory Track for Public Healthin hopes to become a PA. UMass Amherst is very helpful to kids that don’t know what they want to do in life or just want to switch their major. My advisor for Public Health was extremely helpful with any questions I had and helped me pick my classes and plan for the long run.
After my freshman year in the School of Public Heath I realized that I couldn’t see myself in that field any longer. Although I was transitioning into a new field, my advisor continued to support me and helped me with my transition into the school of Communications.
UMass has become my home and I can’t wait to continue on the path I’m on! Go Minuetmen! – @obolensky14

Being from a small town, I enjoy that UW-Milwaukee is in a big city. When I initially got here I was pretty nervous and didn’t go out as much, but that quickly changed once I made lots of friends. College is all about networking and making connections, especially for us business majors.

I Found My Niche at University of Pennsylvania
As a low-income student and woman of color, I will say that the community here at Penn is what makes my college experience all the better! Through ARCH, the cultural resource center, I have met so many people from different walks of life and made so many friends whom I cherish. With such a wide scope of students from different states and countries, Penn has allowed me to learn the true meaning of a “melting pot” at school.
