I Found My Niche at Central Connecticut State University
Student Name: Olanrewaju Olamuyiwa
Major: Political Science
“My name is Olanrewaju Olamuyiwa – aka Ola, born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria 🇳🇬.
When I immigrated to the US to pursue basketball and education, I moved to some awesome places and was blessed by some wonderful families in Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania in pursuit of my dreams.
Currently, I’m a junior and political science major with a minor in anthropology at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU).
I chose CCSU because it felt the most comfortable after taking many athletic college visits. I felt a sense of community and belonging on this campus that I had not felt anywhere else, and I knew this was the right place for me.
Aside from being a scholar-athlete, I am an Orientation Leader, Vice President of Student Government Association, and co-captain of the Men’s Basketball team. I am also a student representative on the University’s Athletic Board. Finally, I was honored to be selected as a Student Representative on the CCSU Foundation board, which brings in all the donations to the university’s endowment fund. All these leadership roles are simply my way of paying it forward and serving my university community. In all ways, I try to model my favorite scripture – To whom much is given, much is required!
Since being here at CCSU, I’ve met a lot of great people, and it has helped me grow. The love and support of this university is tremendous, and it has shaped me into the person I am today. Although I may be over 5000 miles away from home, the love and support here has made me refer to CCSU as my second home!
Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it can take a university to shape a man.” – @olaccsu
